Fastest leveling in WoW Forever: the 1–60 plan

There is no trick that skips the climb. Forever keeps the original experience curve and Blizzard tuned dungeons to match questing, not beat it. What separates a fast character from a slow one is the route: quests with the dungeon quests folded in, little travel, and riding at 40.

Checked against Blizzard's development notes and the final beta datamine, build 1.60.1.70532, on . The beta stopped at level 30, so everything above it is marked projected.

WoW Forever is not out yet. Anything below, including the confirmed lines, can change at launch on November 4.

The short answer

  1. Quest, and fold each dungeon into the route. Collect its quests in the zone, run it once with a group near your level, then go back out.
  2. Do not chain dungeons. Since October, Blizzard balances them to land level with good questing, not ahead of it.
  3. Cut travel. Work one hub at a time, bind your hearthstone where you will return, and take every flight path you pass.
  4. Stack the small boosts. Cooked food for 5% kill experience, rested experience for kills, and the Cozy Sleeping Bag.
  5. Save for riding at 40. It is the biggest speed spike of the climb.
  6. Spend Legacy Points on Talented first, for talent points from level 5.

This list is our advice, built on the sourced facts below. For your class's talents, open its leveling guide.

What Forever changed about experience

Two builds in October changed the dungeon maths. Questing was never touched.

  • Confirmed Since October 1, dungeon quests pay 50% less of the bonus experience they gave on top of normal quest values. Blizzard cited feedback that leveling was too fast. Blizzard Entertainment
  • Confirmed The October 8 build raised the experience from dungeon kills by about 20% and went back to Classic Era party rules: each player's kill experience depends on their own level, not the group's highest. If one member is vastly above the enemy, nobody in the party gets experience. Blizzard Entertainment
  • Confirmed Blizzard's target is that perfect dungeon play lands close to, if not equal to, optimal questing, and dungeon experience will not go back to Classic Era levels. Blizzard Entertainment (Aggrend) · Warcraft Tavern
  • Reported Even after the cut, a dungeon quest paid well above Classic: PC Gamer's example went from about 4,650 to 3,100 experience, against 1,600 for the same quest in Classic. PC Gamer
  • Reported Players argued on October 18 that dungeon experience still fell short of what Blizzard described. Blizzard forums (player thread)
  • Reported The experience curve is the original 1-60 one, with no global XP bonus; the pace comes from more quests, not from cheaper levels. Timesaver.gg · Kami Labs

The plan, ten levels at a time

Zones come from the Alliance and Horde routes, and each dungeon is listed in the band it opens in. A zone can sit in two neighbouring bands.

  1. Levels 1–10

    Played in the beta

Finish your starting zone and the one next to it, pick up a gathering profession from the starting-zone book if your race has one, and leave a level early rather than late: grey quests pay little. Cook food from the first beasts you skin.

    Talent point 1

Dungeons that open in this band

None on the dungeon chart. Quest until the first instances open at 13.

  2. Levels 10–20

    Played in the beta

First talent point at 10. Quest through your faction's second zone and pick up the dungeon quests for the first instance on your way. Run it once, with the quests, in a group near your level, then go back out.

    Talent points 2–11

Dungeons that open in this band

  3. Levels 20–30

    Played in the beta

The busiest dungeon band. Pick one or two instances on your route rather than all of them, and do each with its full quest set in one visit. This is where the beta stopped, so it is the last band players have timed.

    Talent points 12–21

Dungeons that open in this band

  4. Levels 30–40

Projected: not played in the beta

Projected. Contested zones take over and travel gets longer, so plan hearthstone and flight paths around one hub at a time. Start setting gold aside: riding at 40 is the biggest speed spike of the climb.

    Talent points 22–31

Dungeons that open in this band

  5. Levels 40–50

Projected: not played in the beta

Projected. Train riding the moment you can afford it. With a mount, quest hubs that were too far apart become worth chaining. Dungeons are now for their quest chains and drops, not their kills.

    Talent points 32–41

Dungeons that open in this band

  6. Levels 50–60

Projected: not played in the beta

Projected. The last ten levels are the longest. Spend rested experience here if you saved any, eat before every session, and pick dungeons for gear you will keep at 60.

    Talent points 42–51

Dungeons that open in this band

Datamined Dungeon quest counts come from the beta client's quest data, faction copies included, and the side label from where the entrance is and who its quests are for. A dungeon without a number has no quests in that data yet. WoW Forever Builds

What to pick up on the way, from library rings to the blue dungeon quest rewards, is on power spikes. The order to spend Legacy Points in is on every leveling guide and in the Legacy planner.

The speed you control

Experience boosts

  • Datamined Every well-fed food in the client files carries a Well Fed XP Boost: 5% more experience from kills, not from quests. Daybreak Forever datamine
  • Reported Rested experience doubles kill experience only, never quest or exploration experience. It builds in inns, capitals and in a Cozy Sleeping Bag. Warcraft Tavern
  • Reported The Cozy Sleeping Bag adds 1% experience per minute of rest, up to 3%, and the bonus survives death. The Leatherworking Camp Tent tops your rested pool up. Warcraft Tavern
  • Datamined Five ranks of Talented in the Legacy tree give talent points from level 5 instead of 10. Daybreak Forever datamine

Riding at 40

  • Confirmed Riding follows the Burning Crusade cost model: the price of the mount moves into riding training, and you are given a mount when you learn the skill. Blizzard Entertainment
  • Reported Method lists level 40 riding at 100 gold with your race's first 60% mount included, level 60 riding at 1,000 gold plus 200 for an epic mount, and free level 40 class mounts for Paladins and Warlocks. Method

Start saving in your thirties: a character who can train riding on the day they hit 40 gains more than any talent. The mounts page has the vendors and the gold guide the ways to pay for it.

Travel

  • Reported There are no portal hubs while leveling: boats, zeppelins and flight paths only. Bind your hearthstone at the hub you will come back to and take every flight path you pass. Mein-MMO

Does your class matter?

Less than your route. These are editorial rankings from guide sites and tester impressions, not timed runs.

  • Reported Noobtoboss's leveling tier list (October 19) puts Beast Mastery Hunter and Frost Mage on top, then Paladin, Warlock and Druid, then Shaman and Rogue, with Priest and Warrior last. Noobtoboss
  • Reported SeeMeta's preliminary list (October 18) also has Hunter fastest and Warrior slowest. SeeMeta
  • Reported Beta testers on the official forums called Retribution Paladin leveling far too easy. Blizzard forums (player thread)

Our best leveling class page sets community votes next to a sourced Classic tier list. Whatever you pick, its leveling guide has the talent order:

Leveling with a partner

  • Reported Grouping does not reduce quest experience, but kill experience is split by group size, and a higher-level member costs more than it did in Classic. Warcraft Tavern
  • Confirmed Since October 8 a lower-level partner no longer drags your kill experience down, unless the level gap to the enemy is vast. Blizzard Entertainment
  • Stay within a level or two of each other, and share every quest you can before you start a chain.
  • Pair classes that cover each other's gaps: a pet or a tank with a healer or a ranged class kills without resting.
  • Dungeons are where a duo shines: find three more players near your level and run each instance once with the quests.

Which classes pair best is on leveling combos, ranked from the group guides and their votes.

How long 1–60 takes

  • Reported Blizzard said beta players averaged 20.5 hours to reach level 20, against 20.4 hours in Classic. It is an average across all players, not a speed run. Icy Veins · ForeverWisp
  • Reported A tester compared /played times: a Forever Paladin at level 20 after about 19 hours, against 17 to 19 hours for Classic Era characters at levels 20-22. Blizzard forums (player thread)
  • Reported Late in the beta, players put 1-30 at about Classic pace, and one pointed out that the beta's free Legacy Points made it faster than launch will be. Blizzard forums (player thread)
  • Reported Timesaver.gg's answer to whether Forever levels faster than Classic is no, and Kami Labs gathers third-party estimates of 50 to 200 hours to 60, about 150 in most of them. None of these numbers is measured: the beta stopped at level 30. Timesaver.gg · Kami Labs

What is played and what is projected

Played in the beta (levels 1–30)

  • The zones and dungeons up to 30, and the quest data behind the dungeon counts.
  • The October XP changes: the halved dungeon quest bonus and the October 8 kill-XP fix and increase.
  • The talent orders up to 30 in the class leveling guides.

Projected (levels 31–60)

  • Zone bands and dungeon levels from the WoW Forever chart, not from anyone's run.
  • Talent orders past 30, from the final beta client's trees.
  • Riding costs, which come from guide sites, not from Blizzard.

Still unknown

  • How fast levels 31-60 really are. Nobody played past 30 in the beta, so every hours-to-60 figure is an estimate.
  • Whether dungeon experience lands at the parity Blizzard described. Players disputed it in the last week of the beta.
  • The riding training price at launch. Guide sites list 100 gold at 40; Blizzard has not posted the number.
  • Measured leveling speed per class. The tier lists are editorial, not timed.

Fastest leveling FAQ

What is the fastest way to level in WoW Forever?

Quest, and run each dungeon on your route once with all of its quests in your log, in a group close to your level. Eat cooked food for the 5% kill experience, keep travel short by working one hub at a time, and save gold for riding at 40. Blizzard has balanced dungeon spam to be no faster than good questing.

Is leveling faster in WoW Forever than in Classic?

Not by much, as far as the beta showed. Blizzard said beta players averaged 20.5 hours to level 20 against 20.4 hours in Classic, the experience curve is the original one, and dungeon quest bonus experience was halved on October 1. Forever has more quests, which mostly means fewer gaps to grind through.

Should I spam dungeons to level in WoW Forever?

No. Blizzard's stated target is dungeons close to, not ahead of, optimal questing, and it said dungeon experience will not return to Classic Era levels. Run each dungeon once with its quests, then go back to questing.

Which class levels fastest in WoW Forever?

Editorial tier lists put Beast Mastery Hunter and Frost Mage on top and Warrior last, and beta testers called Retribution Paladin very easy. None of these lists is timed. Pick the class you will keep playing at 60; the gap between classes is smaller than the gap between a good and a bad route.

How long does it take to reach level 60 in WoW Forever?

Nobody knows yet: the beta stopped at level 30. Third-party estimates range from 50 to 200 hours, most of them around 150, and the first 20 levels took beta players about 20 hours on average.
