How to Make Gold in WoW Forever

Blizzard has shared a few changes that matter for gold, like Blueprint recipe drops, campsites with vendors, and no WoW Token, but no prices or Auction House details yet. This guide keeps what is confirmed apart from the Classic 1.12 methods that are the best guide until launch.

What we know for WoW Forever

  • Official Professions get over 600 new recipes across professions and level ranges, and advanced Blueprint recipes drop from dungeon bosses, so rare recipe drops are back as a source of value. Blizzard Entertainment · Profession guides
  • Official Placing a Basic Campfire creates a campsite with access to vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs, so fewer trips back to town are needed while you farm. Blizzard Entertainment · Cooking and campfires
  • Official Crafted food has been adjusted and can grant a small experience bonus on top of stat boosts, which gives Cooking a leveling market, not just an endgame one. Blizzard Entertainment
  • Official There are no realms. You pick a ruleset (Normal, PvP, Roleplay, and Hardcore after launch), each ruleset works as its own large ecosystem, factions stay separate, and Hardcore is fully enclosed. Blizzard Entertainment · Blizzard Watch, Sep 13, 2026
  • Official Blizzard has “no plans” for the WoW Token or character boosts in WoW Forever, so gold can only be earned by playing. Icy Veins
  • Official Buying gold for real money violates Blizzard's End User License Agreement. Blizzard warns it can lead to the gold being removed and the account being permanently suspended, and that gold sellers are tied to account theft and bots. Blizzard Entertainment, Jul 30, 2025
  • Unconfirmed A new starting-zone quest reportedly rewards a choice of Mining, Skinning or Herbalism manuals, so a gathering profession can start earning from level 1. Icy Veins
  • Unconfirmed Legacy perks seen at the BlizzCon demo: Bartering (vendor items cost 5% less gold), Bountiful Harvest (20% more Scarce materials from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning) and Master Chef (10% chance for an extra cooking result). Warcraft Tavern · Professions Legacy Tree

Classic reference methods

UnconfirmedClassic 1.12 reference — may change in WoW Forever.

These are the methods that worked in Classic 1.12, summarized in our own words from the guides listed under Sources. WoW Forever changes zones, recipes and classes, so treat them as a starting point, not a promise.

Gold habits while leveling

  • Vendor grey items, check everything else. Grey items only ever sell to a vendor, but white and green items can be worth far more to players, so look up their Auction House price before you vendor them.
  • Keep your cloth. Linen, Wool, Silk, Mageweave and Runecloth drop from humanoids for every class. Tailoring uses it, and so do engineering, leatherworking and blacksmithing recipes and bags, so it sells even if you never craft.
  • Train what you actually press. Class training, riding and mounts drain gold all the way to 60. New ranks of the abilities you use every fight are worth buying; ranks of spells you never cast can wait until you have spare gold.
  • Pick up a gathering profession early. Gathering costs almost nothing to learn and levels naturally with your character. Learning it early means you never have to go back to low-level zones to catch the skill up.

Gathering by level

Skinning, Herbalism and Mining need no starting gold and pay from level 1. The zones below are the ones our leveling map and Alliance and Horde routes use for each level band; the materials are where they spawned in Classic.

Auction House basics

  • Sell raw materials early, buy them later. Right after a Classic launch, everyone with a gathering profession undercuts each other and prices can dip below vendor value. Check before you sell, and if you have gold to spare, buy materials cheaply while others are dumping them.
  • Flip underpriced auctions. Items listed for less than they sell for at a vendor are free profit. Tooltip addons that show vendor prices make these easy to spot, but flipping takes time to scan, relist and wait for sales.
  • Time consumable sales. Potions, elixirs, weapon stones and buff food swing in price through the week. In Classic they were cheapest after raid nights and sold at a premium just before the next ones.
  • Gathering beats crafting for a first character. In Classic, Skinning, Herbalism and Mining ranked near the top for pure gold because they need no investment; most crafting only paid once you owned rare, in-demand recipes.

Auction House addons such as Auctionator and TradeSkillMaster are tracked on our addons page with their WoW Forever support status.

Dungeon farms

In Classic these were run by level 60 characters, and you could only enter 5 new dungeon instances per hour. While leveling, run each dungeon at its listed level for quests, Bind on Equip drops and vendor loot. Levels are from the WoW Forever dungeon chart.

  • Scarlet Monastery Cathedral (39–45): Mages pulled the whole Cathedral at once: engaging the final boss makes every enemy inside come to you, so one AoE pull clears the wing for vendor loot, Bind on Equip drops and disenchanting.
  • Zul'Farrak (45–51): A mostly raw-gold farm for Mages, with Mageweave that can be turned into bandages for extra value.
  • Maraudon (48–54): Hunters, Warlocks and Priests soloed the final section using the Scepter of Celebras shortcut for vendor loot and ring drops, and herbalists and miners could collect Ghost Mushroom, Blindweed and Mithril on the way.
  • Blackrock Depths (52–60): Home of popular pre-raid items such as Hand of Justice, which kept demand high for runs and for the drops themselves.
  • Dire Maul East (55–60): Mages farmed the lasher area, and for herbalists it was often the best gold per hour thanks to the high-level herbs inside.

Best gold farming class

AoE farming

Mage

Mages were the strongest area-of-effect farmers in Classic, gathering large packs of enemies and killing them together. An AoE talent build was the starting point for every Mage dungeon farm above.

Solo dungeon runs

Hunter, Warlock, Priest

These classes could solo dungeon runs at level 60 for guaranteed vendor gold, with no competition for spawns and no need to sell on the Auction House.

Any class: skin and loot what you kill

Warrior, Paladin, Rogue, Shaman, Druid

Every class kills hundreds of beasts while questing. Skinning turns those corpses into leather, and killing in packs speeds up cloth and vendor loot for classes without big AoE.

Launch-week gold plan

A simple plan for November 4, 2026 onward that does not rely on prices nobody knows yet.

  1. Before November 4Pick your ruleset and professions. Choose your ruleset with the friends you trade with, since each ruleset is its own ecosystem. Plan two gathering professions for your first character, or one gathering profession that feeds the crafting profession you want.
  2. Launch dayLearn a gathering profession at level 1. Take the starting-zone profession quest or visit a trainer before you leave the starting area, and gather everything along your route instead of detouring.
  3. Days 1–3Sell little, keep everything useful. Vendor grey items, but hold cloth, herbs, ore and leather until you can see real Auction House prices. Launch-day listings are often dumped below their value.
  4. Days 3–7Watch the market, not just your bags. Note which materials and foods other players are buying while they level. Install an Auction House addon once one is confirmed to work in WoW Forever, and sell into steady demand rather than undercutting.
  5. All weekSpend on speed, not luxuries. Put gold into class training you use, bags and your first mount. Cosmetic purchases and rarely used spell ranks can wait.
  6. All weekNever buy gold. Ignore whispers, mail and websites offering gold for real money. It breaks Blizzard's rules, risks a permanent suspension, and sellers are linked to stolen accounts.

WoW Forever gold FAQ

What is the best way to make gold in WoW Forever at launch?

Blizzard has not published any gold-making numbers yet. Based on how Classic launches played out, a gathering profession picked up at level 1 is the safest start: it needs no investment, levels with you, and materials are always needed by crafters.

What is the best gold farming class in WoW Forever?

Nothing is confirmed for WoW Forever, and class changes may shift this. In Classic, Mages were the best farmers thanks to AoE pulls, while Hunters, Warlocks and Priests could solo dungeons for steady vendor gold. Any class can make good gold with Skinning, Herbalism or Mining.

Can I buy gold or a WoW Token in WoW Forever?

No. Blizzard has “no plans” for the WoW Token in WoW Forever, and buying gold from third parties for real money breaks Blizzard's rules. It can get the gold removed and the account permanently suspended.

Do gold and items from the beta carry over?

No. Beta characters do not carry over to launch, so every character starts with no gold on November 4, 2026. Use the beta to learn routes and professions instead.

Is the Auction House shared across all players?

Blizzard has said each ruleset works as its own large ecosystem and factions stay separate, but it has not detailed how the Auction House works inside a ruleset. We will update this page when it does.
