Onyxia's Lair

Onyxia's Lair is the returning Classic raid of WoW Forever: one boss, Onyxia, for 40 players at level 60 in Dustwallow Marsh, unlocking with the two new raids on December 9, 2026. Every raid member needs the Drakefire Amulet from a long faction-specific attunement chain. The client's encounter rows match Classic Era; her trinket and necklace are reworked.

Onyxia's Lair attunement: the Drakefire Amulet

Each raid member must carry the Drakefire Amulet to enter. It only has to be in your bags, not equipped. Each faction has its own chain. The quest names and order below are from Blizzard's raid overview of October 20, 2026; the short notes are ours.

Alliance chain

  1. Dragonkin Menace — Pick it up from Helendis Riverhorn in the Burning Steppes.
  2. The True Masters — Six quests share this name. They trace the Black Dragonflight's grip on the Blackrock orcs and end with Marshal Maxwell at Morgan's Vigil, Burning Steppes.
  3. Marshal Windsor — Go into Blackrock Depths and find Marshal Windsor, or proof that he died.
  4. Abandoned Hope — Windsor sends you back to Marshal Maxwell.
  5. A Crumpled Up Note — Starts from A Crumpled Up Note, which drops from enemies in Blackrock Depths. Take it to Windsor in his cell.
  6. A Shred of Hope — Recover Windsor's lost information from Golem Lord Argelmach and General Angerforge in Blackrock Depths.
  7. Jail Break! — Get Windsor out of Blackrock Depths, then report to Marshal Maxwell at Morgan's Vigil.
  8. Stormwind Rendezvous — Meet Squire Rowe at the Stormwind city gates and talk to him to call Windsor.
  9. The Great Masquerade — Bring a group for this one in Stormwind. If Windsor is not there, talk to Squire Rowe at the gates.
  10. The Dragon's Eye — Highlord Bolvar Fordragon sends you across Azeroth to find someone who can help.
  11. Drakefire Amulet — In Upper Blackrock Spire, take the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion from General Drakkisath and hand it in for the amulet.

Horde chain

  1. Blood and Thunder — Pick it up from Warlord Goretooth in Kargath, Badlands.
  2. Warlord's Command — Follows straight on and takes you through Lower Blackrock Spire.
  3. Eitrigg's Wisdom — Goretooth sends you to Eitrigg in Orgrimmar, who sends you on to Thrall.
  4. For The Horde! — Go back into Blackrock Spire and bring Thrall the head of Warchief Rend Blackhand.
  5. What the Wind Carries — Hear out what Thrall has learned.
  6. The Champion of the Horde — Find Rexxar, who walks the roads of Desolace.
  7. The Testament of Rexxar — Take Rexxar's testament to Myranda the Hag in the Western Plaguelands.
  8. Oculus Illusions — Collect Black Dragonspawn Eyes for Myranda.
  9. Emberstrife — Use the Amulet of Draconic Subversion to seek out the drake Emberstrife in Dustwallow Marsh.
  10. The Test of Skulls — Four quests start with this name: bring Emberstrife the skulls of Scryer, Somnus, Chronalis and Axtroz.
  11. Ascension... — Emberstrife gives you the Dull Drakefire Amulet. Take it back to Rexxar in Desolace.
  12. Blood of the Black Dragon Champion — In Upper Blackrock Spire, take the blood from General Drakkisath, then return to Rexxar for the Drakefire Amulet.
  • Blizzard advises starting early and bringing friends: several steps are elite quests or need trips into Blackrock Depths and Blackrock Spire.
  • The developers said on the official WoW Forever podcast that the attunement is not account-wide, at least at launch, so every character does the chain.
  • The Drakefire Amulet is reworked in the client (build 1.60.1.70532): it keeps Stamina +10 and gains Fire Resistance +15.
  • Quest levels and rewards for the chain have not been published, and nothing above level 30 was playable in the beta.

Onyxia's Lair boss

One encounter, as in Classic. The "Conqueror of the Lair" Legacy achievement in the client asks for Onyxia alone, and the datamine finds the encounter, map and difficulty rows identical to Classic Era.

A three-phase fight built around fire: Blizzard's overview tells raids to stack fire resistance before going in and to be ready to reposition as the fight moves. The client's encounter rows are the Classic Era ones, so nothing in the data says the fight itself changed. Source

Tier sets and loot

Unconfirmed

No loot table in the client data. The datamine has no readable loot rows for Onyxia's Lair, so this page lists only the two Onyxia items whose rows changed in build 1.60.1.70532, not a full drop list. Whether her Classic drops are otherwise unchanged has not been confirmed.

Reworked Onyxia items

Stats and effects as the client lists them; it may still change.

  • Onyxia Blood TalismanEpic

    Trinket. Fire Resistance +20, Health per 5 sec +9. Use: Reduces your magic damage taken from Dragon Breath spells by 33% for 15 sec. The use effect (Blood of the Broodmother, five-minute cooldown) is new in WoW Forever.

  • Onyxia Tooth PendantEpic

    Neck. Agility +7, Stamina +8, Fire Resistance +10, Hit +10, Critical Strike +14. Classic Era: Agility +12, Stamina +9 with hit and critical strike equip effects, which the client now turns into plain stats.

Do you need attunement for Onyxia's Lair in WoW Forever?

Yes. Each raid member must carry the Drakefire Amulet to enter. It only has to be in your bags, not equipped. Alliance players earn it through a chain that starts with Helendis Riverhorn in the Burning Steppes, Horde players through one that starts with Warlord Goretooth in Kargath. The developers said the attunement is not account-wide at launch.

How many players is Onyxia's Lair?

40 players at level 60, according to Blizzard's raid overview. It is the only 40-player raid at launch; the two new raids are for 10 and 20 players.

When does Onyxia's Lair open?

On December 9, 2026, together with Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit. Blizzard plans weekly resets for all three raids.

Did Onyxia change in WoW Forever?

The client data says the fight did not: its encounter, map and difficulty rows match Classic Era. Her loot did: Onyxia Blood Talisman gains a use effect that cuts Dragon Breath damage, and Onyxia Tooth Pendant trades its equip effects for Hit and Critical Strike.

What does Onyxia's Lair give for Legacy?

The "Conqueror of the Lair" achievement (Defeat Onyxia.) rewards: Earn 1 Legacy Point.
