WoW Forever Mounts and Riding

Your first mount is the biggest gold purchase of the leveling journey. WoW Forever changes how that gold is spent, but Blizzard has not published the riding level or the price yet. Here is what is confirmed, what was found in the beta files, and how riding worked in Classic 1.12.

What Blizzard has confirmed

Official Riding uses the Burning Crusade-style cost model: the gold you used to pay up front for a mount moves into riding training, and you are granted a mount when you learn the riding skill. Blizzard Entertainment

Legacy and profession perks for travel

Legacy perks are bought per character with account-wide Legacy Points. Values are from BlizzCon demo transcriptions; each tree page lists its sources.

Prices are before discounts. Blizzard Watch quotes the level 60 epic mount as 1,000 gold, Icy Veins splits the same total into 100 gold training and a 900 gold mount.

Epic mount cost with reputation discounts

Honored reputation with the race's home faction takes 10% off riding training and mounts from that race's vendor. Icy Veins · Blizzard Watch
PvP rank 3 takes off another 10%, for a maximum discount of 20%. Mounts are Bind on Equip, so a friend with the discount could buy one for you. Icy Veins · Blizzard Watch

With both discounts the level 40 total drops from 100 to 80 gold and the level 60 total from 1,000 to 800 gold. The reputation side is the one you can plan for while leveling: see the reputation guide for raising your home city to Honored.

Racial mounts and the Exalted rule

Each race learns its own riding skill (horse, ram, tiger, mechanostrider, wolf, kodo, raptor, skeletal horse) from a trainer of that race, and the matching vendor stands next to the trainer. Blizzard Watch · Icy Veins

Paladin and Warlock class mounts

Paladins and Warlocks skipped the gold cost entirely: both classes earned their mounts from quests. Classic Paladins were Alliance only.

Saving gold for your first mount

Pick up a gathering profession early. Herbs, ore and leather sell while you level; compare them on the professions page.
Get your home city to Honored before you train, since in Classic that alone took 10% off the whole purchase.
If you plan Legacy perks for an alt, Bartering lowers vendor prices; it is not known yet whether riding trainers count.
Paladins and Warlocks can spend their gold elsewhere if the free class mount quests stay the same.

WoW Forever mounts FAQ

What level do you get a mount in WoW Forever?

Blizzard has not announced the riding levels yet. In Classic 1.12 you learned riding at 40 and epic riding at 60, and the Skyborne racial mounts found in the first beta build unlock at 40 and 60, which suggests the same breakpoints.

How much does a mount cost in WoW Forever?

The gold price is not announced. Blizzard has said the cost moves into riding training and that learning to ride grants a mount, so you no longer buy the first mount separately. Classic charged 100 gold at level 40 and about 1,000 gold at 60 before discounts.

Are there flying mounts in WoW Forever?

No. Blizzard lists no flying mounts and no level scaling among the principles for WoW Forever.

Can I ride the Cerulean Prideclaw at level 1?

No. The Prideclaw from the Skyborne packs is a ground mount, and Blizzard says you still need to buy the riding skill in game before you can use it.
