Upper Blackrock Spire

Upper Blackrock Spire is the dragon-held top of Blackrock Spire, behind the same entrance as Lower Blackrock Spire. In Classic it was a 10-player run behind a sealed door, ending at General Drakkisath, whose blood both factions needed on the way to Onyxia's Lair. WoW Forever's official dungeon chart leaves it out, yet the final beta client still carries its bosses, so the 56–60 band on this page is the Classic one.

Before you go: getting there, keys and prep

The beta stopped at level 30, so nobody has run Upper Blackrock Spire in WoW Forever yet. Each line says where it comes from: the final beta client (1.60.1.70532), Blizzard, or how it worked in Classic.

How to get there

  • Classic fallback Blackrock Mountain sits between Searing Gorge and the Burning Steppes; Blackrock Depths and Blackrock Spire share its central chamber. In Classic the Alliance fly to Morgan's Vigil and the Horde to Flame Crest, both in the Burning Steppes. Warcraft Wiki
  • Classic fallback In Classic you enter Upper Blackrock Spire through the Lower Spire portal: keep to the left wall up a short stair into a hall of side rooms. Clearing each room's pack puts out its rune, and the double door at the back opens once every rune is dark. Warcraft Wiki

Prep checklist

  • Datamined WoW Forever's official dungeon level chart has no Upper Blackrock Spire band. The final beta client still keeps it as its own group-finder entry and as a step of the Master Spelunker dungeon achievement, so the dungeon is in the game files; Blizzard has not said what it is for at launch.   • Classic fallback The 56–60 band on this page is Classic's: the Classic Era client's group-finder row for Upper Blackrock Spire and warcraft.wiki.gg both start it at 56.   • Datamined The client gives Blackrock Spire, Scholomance, Stratholme and Dire Maul a level 50 entry requirement, with a second switch that can mark the dungeon "currently not available" from the server. Daybreak Forever datamine
  • Datamined Lower and Upper Spire share one map in the client, set up as a party-type instance with a 10-player cap, exactly as in Classic, and its new one-day lockout row is sized for 10 as well.   • Classic fallback In Classic one player in the group needs the Seal of Ascension ring to open the door. It starts with an Unadorned Seal of Ascension, a random drop from Blackrock Spire's orcs; Vaelan, on a ledge inside Lower Blackrock Spire, wants the gemstones from Highlord Omokk, War Master Voone and Overlord Wyrmthalak, then sends you to the drake Emberstrife in Dustwallow Marsh's Wyrmbog to forge it.   • Datamined The client gives a Legacy point for finishing the Lord Valthalak questline (An Earnest Proposition through Saving the Best for Last), and Lord Valthalak has an encounter row on the Blackrock Spire map, so that summoned fight is still in the files. Datamined The client's encounter table lists these five on the Blackrock Spire map after the nine Lower Spire bosses, in this order (the table's order, not a confirmed kill order), and a General Drakkisath kill statistic is filed under Upper Blackrock Spire. What Forever changed about the loot here

Unconfirmed

Forever does not publish its loot tables, and no datamine carries them, so this is not a drop list and it has no drop rates. It takes the Classic drop list for Upper Blackrock Spire and shows which of those items the beta client gives different stats. 14 of 82 have changed in build 1.60.1.70532.

Upper Blackrock Spire quests by faction (Classic list)

Classic fallback

Classic fallback, not seen in the beta. The beta stopped at level 30, so no Upper Blackrock Spire quest has shown up in the Forever data yet. This is the original Classic list, split by faction: givers, levels and chains may change in Forever, and the list is replaced by Forever data once players run the dungeon.

Ordered by pick-up level, chains in step order. "Starts" is the giver's Classic spawn point; quests that show "inside the dungeon" are handed out past the portal.

  1. Drakefire AmuletLv 50+

    You must retrieve the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion from General Drakkisath. Drakkisath can be found in his throne room behind the Halls of Ascension in Blackrock Spire.

    Starts: Haleh, Winterspring (54.5, 51.2). Needs The Dragon's Eye first. Step 16 of 16. 9,050 XP in Classic.

  2. Message to MaxwellLv 55+

    Travel to the Burning Steppes and give Bijou's Information to Marshal Maxwell.

    Starts from Bijou's Information, so everyone loots their own. Turn in to Marshal Maxwell. Needs Bijou's Belongings first. Step 2 of 2. 6,400 XP in Classic.

  3. General Drakkisath's DemiseLv 55+

    Travel to Blackrock Spire and destroy General Drakkisath. Return to Marshal Maxwell when the job is done.

    Starts: Marshal Maxwell, Burning Steppes (84.7, 69.0). Needs General Drakkisath's Command first. Step 2 of 2. 9,950 XP in Classic.

  4. Blackhand's Command(both factions)Lv 55+

    That is one stupid orc. It would appear as if you need to find this brand and gain the Mark of Drakkisath in order to access the Orb of Command. The letter indicates that General Drakkisath guards the brand. Perhaps you should investigate.

    Turn in to Drakkisath's Brand. 6,600 XP in Classic.

  5. Finkle Einhorn, At Your Service!(both factions)Lv 55+

    Talk to Malyfous Darkhammer in Everlook.

    Starts from Glowing Hunk of the Beast's Flesh, so everyone loots their own. Turn in to Malyfous Darkhammer. 7,050 XP in Classic.

  6. General Drakkisath's CommandLv 55+

    Take General Drakkisath's Command to Marshal Maxwell in Burning Steppes.

    Starts from General Drakkisath's Command, so everyone loots their own. Turn in to Marshal Maxwell. 6,850 XP in Classic.

  7. Seal of Ascension(both factions)Lv 57+

    Travel to the Wyrmbog in Dustwallow Marsh. Find the ancient drake, Emberstrife and beat him without mercy until his will is broken. It is at that moment which you must place the Unforged Seal of Ascension before the great beast. You must then be quick to use the Orb of Draconic Energy on his weakened form and claim dominion over his mental faculties. Control the beast and force the Flames of the Black Dragonflight upon the Unforged Seal of Ascension!

    Starts from Vaelan's Gift, so everyone loots their own. Needs the earlier step of the same name first. Step 2 of 2. 9,950 XP in Classic.

  8. Mea Culpa, Lord Valthalak(both factions)Lv 58+

    Use the Brazier of Beckoning to summon Lord Valthalak. Dispatch him, and use Lord Valthalak's Amulet on the corpse. Then, return Lord Valthalak's Amulet to the Spirit of Lord Valthalak.

    Starts from Brazier of Beckoning, so everyone loots their own. Turn in to Spirit of Lord Valthalak. Needs Final Preparations first. Step 2 of 2. 9,950 XP in Classic.

    Travel to Blackrock Spire and collect 20 Black Dragonspawn Eyes. Return to Myranda the Hag when the task is complete.

    Starts: Myranda the Hag, Western Plaguelands (50.8, 77.8). Needs The Testament of Rexxar first. Step 7 of 7. 6,600 XP in Classic.

  2. Blood of the Black Dragon ChampionLv 55+

    Travel to Blackrock Spire and slay General Drakkisath. Gather his blood and return it to Rexxar.

    Starts: Rexxar, Feralas (46.4, 18.2). Needs Ascension... first. Step 3 of 3. 9,950 XP in Classic.

  3. For The Horde!Lv 55+

    Travel to Blackrock Spire and slay Warchief Rend Blackhand. Take his head and return to Orgrimmar.

    Starts: Thrall, Orgrimmar (31.7, 37.8). Needs Eitrigg's Wisdom first. Step 3 of 3. 10,900 XP in Classic.

  4. Blackhand's Command(both factions)Lv 55+
