Overview
Level 60 · Arms Warrior in battlegrounds and world PvP.
Arms with Mortal Strike was the standard Classic PvP Warrior, and the reason is simple: a Warrior next to a healer’s target can kill through heals, and Mortal Strike is what makes that possible. The WoW Forever Arms tree keeps Mortal Strike at the bottom and adds a few PvP-friendly pieces on the way: Improved Hamstring can root, Improved Charge starts a fight with more Rage, and Weaponmaster lets a mace ignore part of a plate wearer’s armor. This build takes those, then spends 20 points in Fury for crit, Piercing Howl and Blood Craze.
Your role in a fight
You are the pressure. In a group fight you pick a target the healers are trying to save, open with Charge or Intercept, apply Hamstring so the target cannot walk away, and keep Mortal Strike on them so heals fall short. You are not a solo hunter: a Warrior without a healer or a friendly Paladin is easy to kite, so stay near your team, and swap targets when a kiter has you out of reach.
Darkspear Islands
Blizzard describes the Darkspear Islands as a 15 vs 15 battleground that mixes control points with Arathi Basin-style flag captures and defense. For Arms that means your best work is on contested points: when a point is being fought over, jump on whoever is capping or healing, use Piercing Howl to slow the whole group, and keep Mortal Strike on the enemy healer. Leave lonely defense of a quiet point to a class with better tools for it.
Honor and ranks: WoW Forever is reported to bring a 14-rank Honor track, earned from battlegrounds and PvP content. Thresholds, weekly caps and decay are not announced; see the PvP and honor hub for what is confirmed.
Strengths
- Mortal Strike’s healing reduction turns a stalemate into a kill whenever your team focuses one target.
- Burst from a big two-hander. Mortal Strike, Overpower and Execute hit hard enough to force defensive cooldowns.
- Sticky melee. Hamstring with Improved Hamstring’s root chance, Piercing Howl for groups and Intercept keep targets close.
- Deflection and Blood Craze give you a little more staying power against other melee.
Weak points
- Kiting. Frost Nova, roots, slows and Hunter traps leave you swinging at air; you need Free Action Potions, a Paladin’s Blessing of Freedom or engineering gadgets.
- Crowd control chains. Fears, Polymorph and stuns stop you completely; save Berserker Rage for fears.
- Heavy dependence on healers. Without heals you trade poorly against casters who can drain your health from range.
Level 60 PvP talent build
Arms 31 / Fury 20 / Protection 0, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.
Arms (31)
- Deflection 2/5 — more parries against Rogues, Warriors and Paladins.
- Improved Rend 3/3 — Rend keeps a Rogue or Druid in combat so they cannot slip back into stealth.
- Improved Charge 2/2 — extra Rage from Charge, so Hamstring and Mortal Strike are available the moment you land.
- Improved Tactical Mastery 5/5 — keeps Rage through stance swaps: Berserker Stance for Intercept and Berserker Rage, Defensive Stance for Disarm or Shield Wall.
- Anger Management 1/1 — Rage in combat even while you are rooted or kited.
- Deep Wounds 3/3 — crits leave a bleed, which keeps pressure up when you are pushed away.
- Two-Handed Weapon Specialization 3/3 — flat two-hander damage for burst.
- Impale 2/2 — bigger crits on Mortal Strike and Execute, which is where kills come from.
- Weaponmaster 5/5 — crit on axes and polearms, or armor penetration on maces for Warriors and Paladins in plate.
- Sweeping Strikes 1/1 — hits a second player in a crowded fight and is required for Mortal Strike.
- Improved Hamstring 3/3 — a chance for Hamstring to root, which stops kiters for a few seconds.
- Mortal Strike 1/1 — the healing reduction your team needs from you.
Fury (20)
- Cruelty 5/5 — melee crit for burst.
- Iron Will 1/5 — a small resistance to stuns and charms; one point here to reach the next tier.
- Unbridled Wrath 5/5 — Rage from your swings, which matters when nobody is hitting you.
- Piercing Howl 1/1 — an instant area slow for flag carriers and groups on a point.
- Blood Craze 3/3 — a little health back after enemy crits.
- Enrage 5/5 — a damage boost after you take a crit, which happens constantly in PvP.
Flexible points: Deflection can move to Improved Overpower if you fight mostly casters. Iron Will is filler; put more points in it if stuns are ending your fights.
Key abilities
- Charge and Intercept: your only gap closers. Charge in Battle Stance out of combat, Intercept in Berserker Stance once the fight has started.
- Hamstring: apply it first on anyone who can run. Improved Hamstring’s root is a bonus, not a plan.
- Mortal Strike: on cooldown against the target your team is killing.
- Intimidating Shout: peels melee off your healer or breaks up a cap.
- Berserker Rage: save it to break or prevent a fear.
- Disarm and Shield Wall from Defensive Stance: Disarm a Rogue or Warrior bursting you, and a shield swap with Shield Wall buys time when you are focused.
- Piercing Howl: slows everyone near you, ideal on a flag carrier and their escort.
Matchups
- Mage · Frost Nova and Blink beat you alone. Wait for Nova before you Charge, or bring a Free Action Potion and an engineering net.
- Hunter · Close the distance fast and stay in the dead zone. Scatter Shot and traps are their answers, so Intercept after the trap is used.
- Rogue · Rend and Hamstring stop Vanish resets and escapes; Disarm during their burst.
- Priest · Psychic Scream breaks your pressure. Mortal Strike stops their heals, so hold Berserker Rage for the fear.
- Warlock · Fears and Death Coil are the problem. Berserker Rage, then everything on the Warlock before the next fear.
- Paladin · Mortal Strike during Divine Shield is wasted; wait it out, then burst when Forbearance is on them.
- Druid · Shapeshifting breaks your slows. Keep hitting and save Intimidating Shout for when they try to heal.
- Warrior · Whoever lands Mortal Strike and Hamstring first usually wins; Disarm their big crit window.
- Shaman · Purge and Earth Shock interrupt your team’s healers; kill totems that slow you and stay on the Shaman.
Resources and cooldowns
In PvP you often start fights with little Rage and get kited before you can build any. Improved Charge, Anger Management and Bloodrage are your openers, and Improved Tactical Mastery lets you swap stances for Intercept, Berserker Rage or Disarm without starting from zero. Do not spend your last Rage on Heroic Strike while the target is still alive: Hamstring and a second Mortal Strike are worth more.
Gear
PvP sets in the beta datamine include Champion’s Battlegear and Lieutenant Commander’s Battlegear for Warriors: 2 pieces give +40 Attack Power, 4 pieces take 5 sec off Intercept, and 6 pieces give +20 Stamina. Wowhead’s report of a 14-rank Honor track says it rewards PvP armor with stats, but how these sets are earned in Forever is not announced. Until then, balance Stamina with Strength on a heavy two-hander, and look for hit so Hamstring and Mortal Strike do not miss.
Legacy planner
The Legacy tree lists For Great Honor (more Honor from kills) and The Quick and the Dead (free resources after a resurrection until you enter combat) in Resourcefulness. Both are unconfirmed beta data; plan them in the Legacy planner if you expect to spend most of your time in battlegrounds.
Consumables and engineering
- Free Action Potion: the most important PvP potion for a Warrior, because roots and stuns are how you lose.
- Swiftness Potion and Limited Invulnerability Potion for chasing or surviving a focus.
- Major Healing Potion and Heavy Runecloth Bandages when your healer is busy.
- Engineering: grenades for stuns, a net projector against kiters and rocket boots to catch up.
