Overview

Level 60 · Holy Priest in battlegrounds and world PvP.

Holy PvP trades some of Discipline’s durability for group healing. Prayer of Mending follows the damage through a fight at a control point, Binding Heal heals you and a teammate at once, and Twilight Focus keeps your casts going through damage. Spell Warding and Blessed Recovery keep you alive, while Martyrdom and Soul Warding from Discipline add more shields and cast protection. You heal larger fights better than a Discipline Priest, but you are easier to lock down.

Your role in a fight

In battlegrounds Holy belongs behind a group, not alone at a flag. Put Prayer of Mending on the front line, use Renew on moving teammates, and save direct heals for the carrier or a defender under focus. In world PvP you want a partner; alone, you mostly survive rather than win.

Darkspear Islands

Darkspear Islands, per Blizzard’s description, is a 15 vs 15 battleground built around control points and Arathi Basin style flag captures plus defense. With 15 players per side, group fights at points are likely, which is where Prayer of Mending and Holy Nova earn their place. Everything past that description is not announced.

Honor and ranks: WoW Forever is reported to bring a 14-rank Honor track, earned from battlegrounds and PvP content. Thresholds, weekly caps and decay are not announced; see the PvP and honor hub for what is confirmed.

Strengths

  • Healing for a crowd. Prayer of Mending and Prayer of Healing keep several defenders up during a big fight at a point.
  • Efficient double heals. Binding Heal covers you and a flag carrier with one cast.
  • Stealth detection. Holy Nova’s damage pulse reveals Rogues and Druids trying to open on your group.
  • More cast protection than Classic Holy. Twilight Focus and Martyrdom keep heals going under melee pressure.

Weak points

  • Interrupts: Kick, Counterspell and Earth Shock stop cast-time heals even with Twilight Focus.
  • Solo play: you do little damage and cannot win most one-on-one fights quickly.
  • Mana Burn: enemy Priests can drain you before a long fight ends.
  • Positioning: Holy heals need line of sight; a bad position gets you killed first.

Level 60 PvP talent build

Discipline 18 / Holy 33 / Shadow 0, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.

Holy (33)

  • Twilight Focus 3/3 — the key PvP talent: most casts keep going when you are hit.
  • Holy Specialization 2/5 — some crit for Inspiration.
  • Spell Warding 5/5 — take less spell damage from every caster.
  • Divine Fury 5/5 — faster Heal and Greater Heal, so a cast is less likely to be interrupted.
  • Holy Nova 1/1 — instant group healing and damage around you, useful against Rogues in Stealth.
  • Blessed Recovery 3/3 — heal back part of large hits.
  • Inspiration 1/3 — a point of armor after crit heals.
  • Improved Healing 3/3 — cheaper big heals and Prayer of Mending.
  • Binding Heal 1/1 — heal yourself while healing someone else.
  • Litany of Light 1/2 — mana back for mixing different heals.
  • Spirit of Redemption 1/1 — a last few heals after death; required for Prayer of Mending.
  • Spiritual Guidance 3/5 — turns Spirit into healing power.
  • Spiritual Healing 3/3 — more healing from every spell.
  • Prayer of Mending 1/1 — an instant heal that jumps to whoever takes damage next.

Discipline (18)

  • Twin Disciplines 5/5 — stronger instant heals and shields for moving.
  • Improved Power Word: Shield 3/3 — stronger shields.
  • Martyrdom 2/2 — cast protection after a melee or ranged crit.
  • Mental Agility 3/3 — cheaper Renew, shields and Prayer of Mending.
  • Inner Focus 1/1 — a free Greater Heal.
  • Meditation 1/3 — one point for the path.
  • Improved Inner Fire 1/3 — more armor and charges for Inner Fire.
  • Mental Strength 1/5 — a little more mana.
  • Soul Warding 1/1 — shields more often.

Key abilities

  • Prayer of Mending: cast it before the fight starts and keep it bouncing.
  • Binding Heal: heal a carrier and yourself while both are attacked.
  • Holy Nova: instant heal around you and a way to reveal nearby stealthed enemies by damaging them.
  • Psychic Scream: push melee off you and your group.
  • Dispel Magic: remove crowd control on teammates.
  • Chastise: a Forever trainer spell that immobilizes a Humanoid for a short time; players count as Humanoids.

Matchups

  • Rogues and Warriors · shield yourself, Psychic Scream and heal from range; Blessed Recovery helps after the first big hits.
  • Mages · Spell Warding plus Twilight Focus let you cast through their damage; watch for Counterspell.
  • Warlocks · fears and curses will hit you; dispel what you can and ask for a Fear Ward if your team has one.
  • Hunters · stay out of their range or behind cover; Viper Sting drains your mana.
  • Druids and Paladins · long healer fights; Mana Burn them only when you are ahead on mana.
  • Shaman · interrupts with Earth Shock and Purge on your shields; heal with Prayer of Mending and Renew between interrupts.

Resources and cooldowns

Holy spends mana fast in PvP because many heals are cast under pressure. Litany of Light and Inner Focus soften that. Keep Psychic Scream for melee, Fade for pets and some attackers, and Power Word: Shield for the moment an enemy commits to you.

Gear

  • PvP sets: The Forever data lists four Priest PvP sets named Investiture (Champion’s, Lieutenant Commander’s, Field Marshal’s and Warlord’s). All of them carry the same three bonuses in different orders: +20 Stamina, 1 sec longer Psychic Scream, and up to 44 healing and 15 spell damage.
  • Stats: Stamina, healing power, then Spirit because of Spiritual Guidance.

Consumables and engineering

  • Consumables: Free Action Potion, Major Mana Potion, Healthstones and bandages.
  • Professions: Engineering for PvP tools, with Tailoring or Herbalism next to it.
