Watch 4 hours of WoW on Twitch for a toy that makes camp buffs last two hours

Blizzard’s launch-week gift for WoW Forever is a toy you earn by watching streams: the Pouch of Violet Dust. For a leveling character it is more useful than most drops, because it makes your camp buffs last twice as long.

What the toy does

Use the pouch on a campfire and the fire turns purple. Every camp benefit gets one extra hour, for two hours in total. The bonus is shared: anyone else resting at that camp gets the same longer buffs, so one person in a group or guild with the toy is enough.

If you are not sure which camp buffs you can have, our power spikes guide lists the ones your professions bring, and the alt planner shows how to spread them across your characters.

The catch is that the toy is temporary. It only works in WoW Forever, only during the WoW: Forever Launch Celebration event, and that event ends in early December. After that the pouch is removed from your collection. Use it while you level, not as a collectible.

How to earn it

• When: from November 4, 4:30 p.m. PST to November 12, 4:30 p.m. PST.
• What: watch four hours of eligible World of Warcraft streams on Twitch while drops are active. You can switch channels and keep your progress, but watching two streams at once does not make it go faster.
• Link first: connect Twitch to your Battle.net account at account.battle.net/connections. If you changed your password or either account since you last linked, link again. After a relink you have to wait seven days before you can link a different Twitch account.
• Claim it: on Twitch you have to press claim, either on the channel or in the Drops Inventory. A claimed reward runs out after seven days if no Battle.net account is linked to receive it.
• Region: the drop goes to the first Battle.net region you log into after claiming, so log into the region you actually play on. Delivery can take up to 24 hours.
• Devices: a PC or Mac browser, or the Twitch app on Android or iOS. Console and smart TV apps do not count.

Blizzard also lists YouTube as an option through the YouTube Connected Apps page. There you have to watch the official World of Warcraft channel the whole time, and the reward arrives on its own once the accounts are linked.

Is it worth it?

Four hours of background stream for two-hour camp buffs during the whole launch month is a good trade, especially if you level in a group that rests at one fire. If you are the one in your group who earns it, light the fire when everyone is there.
