Overview

Level 60 · Destruction Warlock in battlegrounds and world PvP.

Destruction in PvP is the burst warlock. Conflagrate, Shadowburn and Ruin crits kill quickly, and the WoW Forever tree adds real defense and control: Molten Skin reduces all damage taken by 10%, Aftermath makes Conflagrate daze the target, and Pyroclasm gives Soul Fire, Rain of Fire and Hellfire a chance to stun. Intensity keeps your casts going under pressure. The Demonology half gives Stamina and fast demon summons.

Your role in a fight

In battlegrounds, stand behind your front line and kill whoever your team focuses: Immolate, Conflagrate and Shadowburn are fast burst, and Rain of Fire with Pyroclasm stuns defenders who group up. In world PvP you win short fights; Fear and Death Coil buy the time to cast.

Darkspear Islands

Blizzard’s Darkspear Islands is a 15 vs 15 battleground with control points plus flag captures and defense. On a contested point, Rain of Fire and Hellfire with Pyroclasm can stun several players who stand together, which gives your team a window to take the point. Keep your distance from the point itself until the enemy commits their melee, then burst the closest healer. The layout is not known yet.

Honor and ranks: WoW Forever is reported to bring a 14-rank Honor track, earned from battlegrounds and PvP content. Thresholds, weekly caps and decay are not announced; see the PvP and honor hub for what is confirmed.

Strengths

  • Burst: Immolate, Conflagrate and Shadowburn with doubled crit damage from Ruin.
  • Built-in defense: Molten Skin’s 10% damage reduction and Demonic Embrace’s Stamina.
  • Control: Conflagrate daze, Pyroclasm stuns, Fear and Death Coil.
  • Casts under pressure with Intensity.

Weak points

  • Cast times: a coordinated interrupt team shuts down your damage.
  • Shard pressure in long battlegrounds.
  • Less sustain than Affliction or Demonology: if the burst fails, you have few ways to heal back.
  • No level 60 PvP tests yet: the beta stops at level 30 and the honor track is not confirmed.

Level 60 PvP talent build

Affliction 0 / Demonology 16 / Destruction 35, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.

Destruction (35)

  • Aftermath 5/5 — Immolate hits 50% harder up front and Conflagrate dazes the target: a snare from your burst spell.
  • Molten Skin 5/5 — 10% less damage taken from everything.
  • Bane 5/5 — Faster Shadow Bolt, Immolate and Incinerate, and a much faster Soul Fire.
  • Ruin 5/5 — Doubles crit damage on Destruction spells, which is where the kills come from.
  • Shadowburn 1/1 — Instant burst for a low target, and with Shadow and Flame it refunds its shard.
  • Intensity 3/3 — 69% chance that damage does not interrupt your Destruction casts.
  • Shadow and Flame 5/5 — Conflagrate no longer eats Immolate, so you can Conflagrate again, and both instants grant damage buffs.
  • Conflagrate 1/1 — Instant Fire burst on an Immolated target, with a daze from Aftermath.
  • Pyroclasm 2/2 — Soul Fire, Rain of Fire and Hellfire can stun for 6 sec.
  • Bane of Havoc 1/1 — Copies part of your damage to a second enemy, such as the healer behind your target.
  • Agonizing Flames 1/3 — One point for Searing Pain crit and Destruction damage.
  • Incinerate 1/1 — A strong Fire cast on Immolated targets.

Demonology (16)

  • Improved Health Funnel 2/2 — A cheaper Health Funnel that works at any pet health.
  • Demonic Embrace 5/5 — +15% Stamina.
  • Demonic Aegis 2/2 — Stronger Demon Armor.
  • Fel Vitality 3/3 — Tougher demon and more maximum mana.
  • Improved Sayaad 1/3 — Longer Seduction if you bring the Succubus or Incubus.
  • Master Summoner 2/2 — Faster, cheaper summons.
  • Fel Domination 1/1 — A near-instant summon when your demon dies.

Key abilities

  • Immolate into Conflagrate: burst plus a daze; Conflagrate again while Immolate stays up.
  • Shadowburn: instant finisher on a low target.
  • Soul Fire with Pyroclasm: a big cast that can stun, best after Fear or Seduction.
  • Rain of Fire and Hellfire: area damage with Pyroclasm stun chances on a crowded point.
  • Fear, Howl of Terror and Death Coil: make space to cast.
  • Felhunter or Succubus: Spell Lock for casters, Seduction for melee.

Matchups

  • Warriors · Conflagrate daze, Fear and Death Coil to stay out of melee; Molten Skin helps when they reach you.
  • Rogues · Death Coil after their stun, then Hellfire with Pyroclasm to reveal and stun.
  • Mages · Spell Lock their Polymorph or Frostbolt with a Felhunter, then burst.
  • Priests · burst through shields in one window; Bane of Havoc on the priest while you attack their teammate.
  • Hunters · fight at close range where their ranged attacks do not work, and Fear the pet.
  • Paladins · bait Divine Shield before Conflagrate and Shadowburn.

Resources and cooldowns

Soul Shards matter more in PvP than in raids: Death Coil, Soul Fire, Healthstones and resummons all need them, and Shadowburn refunds only through Shadow and Flame. Life Tap between fights, not during them. Eureka! pairs well with Immolate, Conflagrate and Soul Fire for a cheap kill window.

Gear

This site’s beta datamine has no warlock PvP set, so the honor rewards for warlocks are not known yet. A burst Destruction build needs to survive long enough to finish its casts: take Stamina alongside Shadow and Fire spell damage, and add spell crit once you have enough health, because Ruin doubles crit damage. Spell hit keeps Fear and Death Coil reliable. From the Tier 1 Demonheart Raiment, the 2-piece hit bonus is the part that matters in PvP.

Consumables and engineering

  • Soul Shards: farm a full bag before a battleground session for Death Coil, Soul Fire and resummons.
  • Free Action Potion so a stun or root does not end your burst window.
  • Major Healing Potion and Healthstones when Molten Skin is not enough.
  • Engineering: explosives stack with Pyroclasm and Fear for chained control.
