Overview

Level 60 · Elemental Shaman in battlegrounds and world PvP.

Elemental PvP combines instant shock damage with cast burst. Reverberation shortens shock cooldowns, Eye of the Storm reduces pushback on your casts, and Earthbound makes Earthbind Totem immobilize nearby enemies when you place it. Once a target is rooted, Flame Shock into Lava Burst and Lightning Bolt land without interruption from melee. From Enhancement, Guardian Totems shortens Grounding Totem, Improved Ghost Wolf gives faster movement, and Anticipation adds dodge.

Your role in a fight

In battlegrounds you are a burst caster with utility: Purge enemy buffs, Grounding Totem an incoming spell, Earth Shock interrupts and drop a root when melee chases you. In world PvP, a root plus Lava Burst gives you a burst window most classes cannot answer quickly.

Darkspear Islands

Darkspear Islands is a 15 vs 15 battleground that Blizzard describes as mixing control points with Arathi Basin style flag captures and defense. Elemental suits defending a point: Earthbound roots attackers as they arrive and Chain Lightning hits a group. Beyond that official description, the map is unknown.

Honor and ranks: WoW Forever is reported to bring a 14-rank Honor track, earned from battlegrounds and PvP content. Thresholds, weekly caps and decay are not announced; see the PvP and honor hub for what is confirmed.

Strengths

  • Root, then burst. Earthbound makes Earthbind Totem an instant root, which gives Lava Burst and Lightning Bolt time to land.
  • Frequent shocks. Reverberation brings Earth Shock and Flame Shock back sooner for interrupts and instant damage.
  • Spell protection. Grounding Totem on a shorter cooldown absorbs Polymorph, Fear or a big nuke.
  • Casts through pressure. Eye of the Storm reduces pushback when melee reaches you.

Weak points

  • Mail armor but no escape: once melee closes in and roots are down, you have no teleport or stealth.
  • Silences: Kick or Counterspell locks your Nature spells.
  • Purge wars: enemies can dispel your buffs too.
  • Mana: long fights drain you.

Level 60 PvP talent build

Elemental 33 / Enhancement 18 / Restoration 0, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.

Elemental (33)

  • Convection 5/5 — cheaper shocks and bolts during a long fight.
  • Concussion 5/5 — harder Earth Shock and Lightning Bolt.
  • Reverberation 5/5 — shocks on a shorter cooldown: more interrupts and instant damage.
  • Elemental Focus 1/1 — free spells when Clearcasting procs.
  • Elemental Fury 5/5 — big crits are how Elemental kills players.
  • Eye of the Storm 3/3 — melee hits push your casts back far less.
  • Call of Thunder 1/1 — crit for bolts and the requirement for Elemental Alacrity.
  • Lightning Overload 3/3 — occasional free extra bolt for burst.
  • Earthbound 1/1 — Earthbind Totem roots nearby enemies when you place it.
  • Elemental Alacrity 3/3 — shorter casts on Lightning Bolt and Lava Burst.
  • Lava Burst 1/1 — high damage after Flame Shock.

Enhancement (18)

  • Thundering Strikes 5/5 — crit for spells.
  • Ancestral Knowledge 5/5 — more Intellect for mana.
  • Guardian Totems 2/2 — Grounding Totem more often.
  • Improved Ghost Wolf 2/2 — faster Ghost Wolf casting to escape or reposition.
  • Shamanistic Focus 1/1 — cheaper shocks.
  • Anticipation 3/3 — more dodge against melee.

Key abilities

  • Earthbind Totem with Earthbound: root melee, then cast freely.
  • Flame Shock → Lava Burst: your burst combo.
  • Earth Shock: interrupts a cast; Reverberation brings it back sooner.
  • Grounding Totem: absorbs an incoming spell such as Polymorph or Fear.
  • Purge: remove shields and buffs from enemies.
  • Ghost Wolf: move fast between fights.

Matchups

  • Warriors and Rogues · root with Earthbound, then burst; keep Ghost Wolf to escape.
  • Mages · Grounding Totem their Polymorph and interrupt with Earth Shock.
  • Warlocks · Grounding Totem absorbs a Fear, Tremor Totem breaks the next one, and Earth Shock stops long casts.
  • Priests · Purge Power Word: Shield before Lava Burst.
  • Hunters · stay close so they cannot use ranged attacks; watch for traps.
  • Paladins · Purge their blessings and do not waste burst into Divine Shield.

Resources and cooldowns

Mana runs out in long fights because shocks are expensive; Convection and Shamanistic Focus help. Track Grounding Totem and Earthbind Totem cooldowns. You no longer have Elemental Mastery, so burst depends on Lava Burst and crits.

Gear

  • PvP sets: the Forever data lists Thunderfist sets (Champion’s, Lieutenant Commander’s, Field Marshal’s, Warlord’s) with spell damage, 2% shock crit and Stamina bonuses.
  • Relics: Totem of Ancestral Protection lowers Grounding Totem’s cooldown.
  • Stats: Stamina and spell damage, then spell crit and Intellect.

Consumables and engineering

  • Consumables: Free Action Potion, mana potions and Healthstones.
  • Professions: Engineering for grenades and trinkets.
