Overview
Levels 10–20 · Enhancement Shaman, solo questing and grinding.
Enhancement is the natural leveling spec for a beta Shaman, and Icy Veins’ level 20 build aims for Shamanistic Focus as early as possible, since it cuts the mana cost of your Shocks. Getting there takes 10 points, so the path runs through Thundering Strikes for crit, Improved Ghost Wolf for travel (Ghost Wolf now works indoors), and Mental Dexterity, which turns your Intellect into Attack Power. Players are not happy with every part of the tree. Mental Quickness only converts 30% of Intellect to spell power, and Elemental’s Lava Burst is seen as weak, so this build avoids both. Written for the first beta phase: level cap 20, client build 1.60.1.69913. Talents and tuning will change before the level 30 phase and again before launch on November 4.
Why this build
- Cheap Shocks at 20. Shamanistic Focus lets you weave Earth and Flame Shock into every fight.
- Travel. Improved Ghost Wolf is fast to cast and works indoors now.
- Durable. Mail, a shield option, healing and totems make Shaman forgiving.
Weak spots
- Mana-hungry before 20. Shamanistic Focus only arrives with your 11th point.
- Mental Quickness is weak by players’ standards, so hybrid “spellhance” play is not worth it yet.
- Dwarf Shamans in particular report dying a lot early on, so pull carefully.

- Levels 10–14 · Thundering Strikes 5/5 — +5% crit with spells and attacks at 5 points.
- Levels 15–16 · Improved Ghost Wolf 2/2 — Ghost Wolf casts 2 sec faster and works indoors: a big time saver without mounts.
- Levels 17–19 · Mental Dexterity 3/3 — Adds Attack Power equal to 99% of your Intellect at 3 points.
- Level 20 · Shamanistic Focus 1/1 — Reduces the mana cost of your Shocks and Lightning Shield by 45%. Needs 10 points in Enhancement.

How to pull and kill
- Rockbiter Weapon and Lightning Shield before every pull.
- Open with a Lightning Bolt, then melee with a two-hander.
- Earth Shock to interrupt casters or to finish runners.
- Heal between pulls, not during them, unless a fight goes badly.
Leveling tips
- Tauren’s Plainsrunning helps with travel before mounts, as Icy Veins points out.
- Earth’s Grasp is optional if you like Stoneclaw and Earthbind totems.
- Skip Lava Burst plans for now. Players say it has the same cast time as Lightning Bolt for only 36 more damage.
- Stormstrike is out of reach at 20 without extra Legacy points.
