Theorycrafted before the WoW Forever beta (September 17, 2026). The leveling plan follows the proven Classic leveling builds, the talents use the pre-release WoW Forever trees on this site, and ability levels quoted from Classic may differ in Forever. Expect updates once the beta is testable.

Overview

Levels 10–60 · Enhancement Shaman, solo questing and grinding.

Enhancement is what Classic guides recommend for most Shamans: steady melee damage from your weapon enchants, shocks for burst, and your own heals so you rarely die. The Forever tree changes the details. There is no Shield Specialization or Two-Handed Axes and Maces talent; instead Mental Dexterity turns your Intellect into attack power, Shamanistic Focus makes shocks and Lightning Shield much cheaper, and the tree ends in two new talents: Maelstrom Weapon, which lets melee hits make your next Lightning Bolt faster and cheaper, and Rage of the Farseer, a 30% attack and casting speed cooldown. Flurry and Stormstrike are still the core. After 40 the build adds dodge from Anticipation and 5% hit from Restoration’s Tidal Focus.

Why this build

  • Self-sufficient: Healing Wave between pulls, Lightning Shield and Stoneskin Totem during them.
  • Burst when needed: Stormstrike followed by Earth Shock, and a Maelstrom-empowered Lightning Bolt for runners.
  • Cheap shocks: Shamanistic Focus lets you shock on cooldown without running dry.
  • Intellect is not wasted: Mental Dexterity and Mental Quickness turn it into attack power and spell damage.

Weak spots

  • Slow early levels: until Flurry and Windfury Weapon (level 30 in Classic) your damage depends on your weapon.
  • Totem upkeep: totems cost mana and time to place; skip them on quick kills.
  • Weapon dependent: a bad weapon hurts much more than a bad chest piece.

Talent order by level

One point per level from level 10 to 60. The talent tree above shows the finished level 60 build; use the level slider to see it at any level.

  • Levels 10–14 · Thundering Strikes 5/5 — +5% crit with spells and attacks.
  • Levels 15–17 · Mental Dexterity 3/3 — Attack power equal to 99% of your Intellect at 3/3; required for Flurry.
  • Levels 18–19 · Ancestral Knowledge 2/5 — +10% Intellect at 5/5, which Mental Dexterity turns into attack power.
  • Levels 20–22 · Elemental Weapons 3/3 — Stronger Rockbiter Weapon attack power and 15% more Flametongue and Frostbrand damage.
  • Level 23 · Shamanistic Focus 1/1 — Shocks and Lightning Shield cost 45% less mana.
  • Level 24 · Ancestral Knowledge 3/5 — finish the talent.
  • Levels 25–29 · Flurry 5/5 — 25% faster attacks for your next swings after a melee crit.
  • Level 30 · Stormstrike 1/1 — Instant weapon strike that makes the target take 20% more Nature damage for 12 sec.
  • Levels 31–32 · Improved Stormstrike 2/2 — Stormstrike grants regeneration while casting, and its cooldown can reset when you dodge or parry.
  • Levels 33–34 · Mental Quickness 2/2 — Spell damage and healing from 30% of your Intellect.
  • Levels 35–39 · Maelstrom Weapon 5/5 — Melee hits build stacks that make your next Lightning Bolt faster and cheaper.
  • Level 40 · Rage of the Farseer 1/1 — 30% melee attack and casting speed for 25 sec.
  • Levels 41–42 · Ancestral Knowledge 5/5 — finish the talent.
  • Levels 43–45 · Anticipation 3/3 — +6% dodge.
  • Levels 46–50 · Improved Healing Wave (Restoration) 5/5 — Healing Wave casts 0.5 sec faster for quick heals after a fight.
  • Levels 51–55 · Tidal Focus (Restoration) 5/5 — +5% hit with all spells and attacks, and cheaper heals.
  • Levels 56–60 · Toughness 5/5 — +10% Stamina.

Key levels

  • Level 14 · Thundering Strikes 5/5: +5% crit, the trigger for Flurry later.
  • Level 17 · Mental Dexterity 3/3: attack power equal to your Intellect.
  • Level 22 · Elemental Weapons 3/3: Rockbiter and Flametongue both get stronger.
  • Level 29 · Flurry 5/5: 25% faster attacks after every melee crit.
  • Level 30 · Stormstrike, and Windfury Weapon from the trainer: your damage jumps.
  • Level 39 · Maelstrom Weapon 5/5: melee hits make your next Lightning Bolt faster and cheaper.
  • Level 40 · Rage of the Farseer: 30% attack and casting speed for 25 sec on tough pulls.
  • Level 55 · Tidal Focus 5/5: +5% hit with all attacks and spells.

How to pull and kill

  1. Put up Lightning Shield and your weapon enchant, then pull with Lightning Bolt or walk in and melee.
  2. Drop Stoneskin or Strength of Earth Totem on elites or multiple mobs; skip totems on a single easy mob.
  3. Stormstrike, then Earth Shock (or Flame Shock on a mob that will live long) inside the Stormstrike window.
  4. When Maelstrom Weapon is stacked, cast Lightning Bolt on a runner or to finish a low mob from range.
  5. Heal with Healing Wave after the fight, not during it, unless you are in danger. Use Rage of the Farseer for two or more mobs.

Leveling tips

  • Weapons: a one-handed weapon and shield early; later the slowest, hardest-hitting weapon you can use. Classic needed a talent for two-handed axes and maces that is not in the Forever tree, so check with your trainer before buying one.
  • Enchants: Rockbiter Weapon early, Flametongue Weapon once it out-damages Rockbiter, and Windfury Weapon from level 30 in Classic.
  • Totems: Searing Totem adds free damage on longer fights; Stoneclaw Totem pulls one add off you while you kill the first mob.
  • Ghost Wolf (level 20 in Classic) is your travel form until you have a mount.
  • Zones: Durotar and the Barrens to 20, the Barrens and Hillsbrad Foothills to 30, Arathi Highlands and Stranglethorn Vale to 40, Tanaris and Feralas to 50, then Un’Goro Crater and Felwood.
  • Dungeons: Enhancement can also tank early dungeons with Rockbiter Weapon, for example Ragefire Chasm (13–19) or Wailing Caverns (19–25).

After level 60

At 60, move the Improved Healing Wave points into Guardian Totems and Improved Ghost Wolf for PvP, or into Restoration’s Totemic Focus for raids. Keep Tidal Focus for its hit.
