Overview
Level 60 · Holy Paladin · Healer in dungeons and raids.
The Classic 1.12 raid Paladin was a single-target specialist: rank-downed Flash of Light on tanks all night, Holy Light when damage spiked, Illumination refunding mana on crits and Blessings for the whole raid. The WoW Forever Holy tree keeps Illumination and Holy Shock and adds tools aimed at the Paladin’s old weak spots. Reverence lets part of your mana regeneration continue while casting, Infusion of Light turns Holy Shock and Flash of Light crits into faster Holy Lights, Voice of Truth makes you immune to silence and interrupts for a few seconds, and the new capstone Light’s Vigil turns your next Holy Shock on a marked target into a party heal. You still heal best on a few targets, but you finally have something for group damage.
Your job in the group
You heal tanks and whoever is taking steady damage, and you are the raid’s source of Blessings, Cleanse and a battle-ready plate healer who survives a stray hit. In raids, expect to be assigned to one or two tanks. In five-player dungeons you are the only healer, so Light’s Vigil and Holy Shock carry the group moments that Flash of Light cannot.
Why play it
- Mana efficiency on crits. Holy Power and Divine Favor raise crits, Illumination refunds mana on them, and Reverence adds regeneration while casting.
- Burst tank healing. Divine Favor into Holy Light, or a crit Holy Shock into an Infusion-shortened Holy Light, answers a big hit.
- Group healing at last. Light’s Vigil’s party heal gives Paladins a real tool for group damage.
- Cleanse, Blessings and plate. You bring utility and survive mistakes other healers die to.
Weak points
- Raid-wide damage still favors Priests, Druids and Shamans; Light’s Vigil only heals one party at a time.
- Long fights test your mana if your crit chance is low; Illumination is only as good as your crit.
- Positioning. You need line of sight on tanks, and plate does not save you from standing in a bad spot.
Level 60 talent build
Holy 33 / Protection 7 / Retribution 11, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.
Holy (33)
- Divine Intellect 5/5 — a bigger mana pool, which Illumination returns more of per crit.
- Healing Light 3/3 — stronger Holy Light, Flash of Light and Holy Shock heals.
- Spiritual Focus 2/2 — less pushback when a boss or add hits you mid-cast.
- Unyielding Faith 2/2 — shorter fears and disorients, which some raid bosses use.
- Voice of Truth 1/1 — a short immunity to silence and interrupts for fights with casters.
- Reverence 3/3 — part of your mana regeneration keeps running while you cast.
- Purifying Power 2/2 — cheaper Cleanse for dispel-heavy fights, and shorter Exorcism and Holy Wrath cooldowns for undead trash.
- Infusion of Light 2/2 — Holy Shock and Flash of Light crits shorten your next Holy Light cast.
- Illumination 5/5 — mana back on healing crits, the core of Holy mana.
- Divine Favor 1/1 — a guaranteed crit for an emergency Holy Light.
- Holy Shock 1/1 — an instant heal to use while moving or to trigger Infusion of Light.
- Holy Power 5/5 — crit for every heal and a large crit bonus on Holy Shock.
- Light’s Vigil 1/1 — marks a target so your next Holy Shock on them heals their party and has no cooldown.
Protection (7)
- Toughness 5/5 — armor to survive stray melee and cleaves.
- Guardian’s Favor 2/2 — a shorter Blessing of Protection cooldown for saving a clothie, and a longer Blessing of Freedom.
Retribution (11)
- Deflection 1/5 — a single filler point to open the next Retribution tier.
- Benediction 5/5 — cheaper Judgements and Seals when you judge for the raid.
- Improved Judgement 2/2 — Judgement comes back sooner.
- Holy Conduit 2/2 — cheaper Consecration, Holy Wrath and Exorcism for dungeon trash.
- Sanctified Judgement 1/3 — one rank returns some of the judged Seal’s mana, so judging for the raid costs less.
Flexible points: The seven Protection points and eleven Retribution points are utility. Raids that need no Blessing of Protection saves can move Guardian’s Favor into more Retribution, and a dungeon-only healer can skip Purifying Power.
Rotation and priority
- Before the pull: Blessings on the raid, your aura, and a Light’s Vigil on the main tank.
- Flash of Light is your default heal on the tank; use lower ranks when damage is steady to save mana.
- Holy Shock when you need an instant heal or when Light’s Vigil is on the target; a crit primes Infusion of Light.
- Holy Light after an Infusion proc or when the tank takes a big hit; Divine Favor first if the hit is dangerous.
- Light’s Vigil on the tank or a player in a party that is about to take group damage, then Holy Shock them.
- Cleanse magic, poison and disease effects when your assignment allows.
- Judge for the raid (Judgement of Wisdom or Light in Classic) when the fight is calm and your assignment says so.
Cooldowns
- Divine Favor into Holy Light for the biggest single heal you have.
- Lay on Hands on a tank about to die when no other heal will land in time.
- Blessing of Protection on a clothie with aggro; Guardian’s Favor shortens it.
- Voice of Truth before an enemy silence or interrupt.
- Divine Shield or Divine Protection when you are about to die yourself.
Resources
Holy mana is about crits. Holy Power and Divine Favor raise them, Illumination turns them into mana, and Reverence lets you regenerate while you keep casting instead of waiting out the five-second rule. Use low ranks of Flash of Light for steady damage, save Holy Light for spikes, and do not overheal with Holy Light just because Infusion of Light shortened it. Mana potions and Dark or Demonic Runes were the Classic way to last a long boss.
Stat priority
Healing power comes first because it adds the same flat amount to every rank, which makes rank-downed Flash of Light efficient. Intellect is next for a larger mana pool and some spell crit, then spell crit itself, which Illumination turns into mana. Mana regeneration per five seconds follows, and Stamina and Spirit are last; Reverence makes Spirit-based regeneration more useful than in Classic, but it still trails crit.
Gear and set bonuses
Justice Armor is the Holy Tier 1 set in the beta datamine: 2 pieces give +10 Spirit, 3 pieces take 30 sec off Blessing of Protection, 4 pieces give +26 healing and +9 spell damage, and 5 pieces take 1 sec off Holy Shock. The reworked dungeon set Lightforge Armor and its upgrade Soulforge Armor now pay out at 2 through 6 pieces with spell power, mana regeneration and a proc that raises damage and healing; both help a healer before raid tier. The datamine also lists a Paladin relic, Libram of Divinity, but not where it drops.
Legacy planner
The Legacy tree’s Permanence node makes long-duration party and raid stat buffs last longer, which reads like it should cover Blessings, and Reagent Economy removes vendor reagents from class abilities. Both are unconfirmed beta data, so check the tooltips in the Legacy planner before counting on them.
Consumables and professions
- Mana: Major Mana Potion, Mageblood Potion and Nightfin Soup were the Classic staples.
- Healing power: Brilliant Mana Oil on your weapon.
- Runes: Dark Rune or Demonic Rune for mana on long fights.
- Resistance potions for encounters built around one school of magic.
- Professions: Alchemy for your own potions, or Herbalism to supply them.
