Five sealed WoW Forever dungeons now have names: The Drowned City, Blackmaw Hold, Shapers Terrace, Krol'dok

Blizzard encrypted the map rows for WoW Forever's unannounced instances, but the sound emitters placed inside them are readable and each is named after its instance. That gives names and settings for five sealed places: The Drowned City, Blackmaw Hold, Shapers Terrace, Krol'dok and the Hyjal Summit raid. Krol'dok is tuned to level 40 with a daily lock, Barrow Deeps has eleven named rooms in four wings, and The Drowned City's boss order is partly readable.

Blizzard has been sealing the files for content it has not announced: the map and area rows for WoW Forever’s unreleased instances are encrypted. The sound emitters placed inside those instances are not, and every emitter is named after the place it sits in.

That gap has now produced names, settings and partial boss lists for five sealed instances. This is datamined and unannounced, so treat all of it as work in progress.

The five sealed places

Instance Map What the ambience says
The Drowned City 2970 Coastal forest, with a shipwreck emitter and three waterfalls
Blackmaw Hold 2974 Built around waterfalls
Shapers Terrace 3001 Stitches together Feralas, Silithus, Thousand Needles and Un’Goro ambience
Krol’dok 3039 Badlands canyon and the Riverglades
Hyjal Summit 2981 The raid

None of those rows exist in retail 12.1.5 or Classic Era, so they are Forever’s own.

Blackmaw Hold is the name to note. It was teased at BlizzCon for level 55 and up, and it is the leading candidate for the mega dungeon Josh Greenfield hinted at yesterday, the Blackrock Depths kind that takes as long as a raid.

Krol’dok: level 40, with a daily lock

The map difficulty rows survived even where the map rows did not. Krol’dok’s Normal difficulty points at a level 40 content tuning entry, and a second row carries a daily lock.

A daily lockout on a levelling dungeon is unusual, and it suggests Krol’dok is built to be repeated but not farmed. Filed beside it is something stranger: a sealed single-player map.

The Drowned City’s boss order

Sound mix groups number the encounters, which gives a partial running order:

  • Zul’Alai is boss 1, with area impact sounds;
  • Captain Dreadrise is boss 3;
  • Min’loth the Serpent is boss 5, and a screen effect names his transformation.

The room names come from the world model area table: Atal’Byzal, Sunken Hollow and a wrecked ship. Troll, pirate and naga music sets for the instance are in the files too, which tells you roughly what lives there.

Barrow Deeps: eleven rooms, four wings

For the raid we already knew about, the room names are readable even though the area rows are encrypted: Shimmering Cavern, Vor’danaar Prison with its Prison of Desire and Enfeeblement Chamber, Vault of Chains, Blackmaw Den, Seat of the Raven, Fungi Forest, Lucent Grotto, Silken Hollow, Lair of the Seer and The Shadow Expanse. Player conditions group them into four wings, and the entrance building is filed under Winterspring.

Hyjal Caverns, sealed under its own area, holds the Rootspire, the Sunken Monolith, a Burial Chamber, an Emerald Antechamber and the Pinnacle of the Dream.

One correction to our own raid page

The emitter and screen-effect numbering disagrees with the achievement order we used for Hyjal Summit. The achievement lists Old Gloomlurker fifth and Gharalis sixth; the build data numbers Time-Lost Battalion as boss 3, Old Gloomlurker 8, Gharalis 9. Achievement order often follows the criteria list rather than the fight order, so the encounter numbering is more likely to be the real one. We will mark both on the raid page.

What this does not tell us

  • No release order. Nothing says which of these arrives at launch and which comes later.
  • No boss counts, except where an emitter happens to number one.
  • Names can change. These are internal labels in an unfinished build.

The next official beat is the PAX Aus keynote on October 9 to 11, where Blizzard says a new Forever dungeon will be shown. Our dungeon list covers the nine confirmed for launch.
