WoW Forever beta hotfixes: Skyborne quest 'A Firm Response' unblocked, and EU lag fixes are in

Two blue posts close out the beta's first weekend. The event in A Firm Response on Zephras Isle, which stalled after High Priestess Lorthuna spawned and blocked Skyborne progress for days, now works after a second fix. Blizzard also says EU routing problems that caused rubber-banding and disconnects have been fixed where they were in its control, while some issues from ISPs or firewall software may remain.

No new beta build yet (the client is still 1.60.1.69913), but Blizzard has pushed two server-side fixes that matter to a lot of testers.

“A Firm Response” works again

If you started a Skyborne character, you probably hit this wall. In the Zephras Isle quest A Firm Response, you talk to Belathaan Brightwish near the Shrine of Akir to start an event. The event then froze: High Priestess Lorthuna and the Living Storms spawned, sometimes before you even spoke to him, and nothing else happened. Relogging did not help, and the original forum thread passed 10,000 views with players stuck around the NPC.

Community manager Kaivax confirmed on September 21 that it is fixed. A first attempt a couple of days earlier did not work. The second one did, and Blizzard can see testers completing the quest. The EU forums got a matching “hotfixed” post the same evening.

If you abandoned the quest, go back to Belathaan and pick it up again. If it still stalls, relog once, then report it in game with the quest name.

EU routing: fixed where Blizzard can fix it

EU testers had a rough first weekend: rubber-banding, delayed interactions and disconnects. In a post on the EU forums, Blizzard says engineers have developed and implemented solutions to streamline routing to the beta for Europe.

The post is honest about the limits. Some lag is outside Blizzard’s control:

  • problems at your ISP or further upstream, where traffic takes a less direct route;
  • firewall or security software slowing the connection, or blocking it entirely.

If you are in the EU and still lagging, test with your firewall or VPN software paused, and compare the latency counter at different times of day. If it only happens at peak hours, it is likely routing outside the game. Our crash and connection guide has more fixes.

Still on the list

Other known issues from the September 18 list are open. The cooldown manager is still a work in progress for some classes, and there is no word yet on the level cap going from 20 to 30. We will cover the next build as soon as it goes live.
