WoW Forever's Skyborne race costs $29.99, and players are pushing back

The Skyborne, the only brand-new playable race announced for World of Warcraft: Forever, will not be included with a regular subscription. Access starts at $29.99, and that price tag has quickly turned into one of the most debated details to come out of BlizzCon 2026.

What the purchase includes

Two outlets looked at the offer, and their descriptions differ slightly:

• PC Gamer calls the $29.99 bundle the “Skyborne Hero Pack”. Besides the race, it lists a mount, cosmetics, housing decorations and early name reservation. Citing MMORPG.com, the site adds that the Skyborne starting zone is part of the paid content.
• GamesRadar+, working from the official World of Warcraft website, treats the $30 tier as the entry point that unlocks the race when Forever launches in November. It also mentions two bigger bundles: a Skyborne Epic Pack at roughly $20 more, and a Warcraft Forever Collection at $79.99.

Because the two reports don’t line up perfectly on what the cheapest tier contains, check Blizzard’s store listing before you pay.

The rest of Forever is on the subscription

Part of why the pricing stands out is how little else is locked away. According to PC Gamer, most of Forever is covered by a normal WoW subscription, with only the Skyborne and their starting experience sold separately. The outlet’s writer called the subscription side an excellent deal, but argued that this contrast makes a $30 race feel even steeper, comparing it to what an expansion used to cost. For reference, PC Gamer notes the most recent retail expansion carried a $50 MSRP.

PC Gamer contributor Tyler Colp also guessed that any new classes added to Forever later could be sold the same way. That is his prediction, not a Blizzard announcement.

How players are reacting

GamesRadar+ points to a long list of Reddit threads on the topic, including a dedicated feedback post. The complaints fall into two broad groups:

• The paywall. Some players who say they are excited for Forever and plan to play at launch still dislike paying extra for a race. One commenter quoted by GamesRadar+ said Blizzard “dropped the ball” here.
• The concept. Others object to the race itself, saying it clashes with the classic feel. Criticism collected by the outlet ranges from a “weird retail vibe” to the blunt summary that “they are just blue elves”, a jab that invites comparison with night elves.

The reaction is not entirely negative. The GamesRadar+ writer said she likes the periwinkle-skinned design, even though she is unhappy with the paywall and the lack of faction identity. When that report was published, Blizzard had not publicly addressed the backlash.

What it means for players

If you want a Skyborne character on day one, plan for at least $29.99 on top of your subscription, and compare the bundles to see which one actually covers what you care about.
