Overview

Level 60 · Discipline Priest · Healer in dungeons and raids.

Classic Discipline was a support tree you visited for Power Infusion; in Forever it is a healer in its own right. Penance is an instant, channeled heal, Soul Warding makes Power Word: Shield cheaper and more frequent, Renewed Hope gives your direct heals more crit on shielded targets, and Divine Aegis turns those crits into absorb shields. The play pattern is prevention: shield the player who is about to take damage, Penance them when they do, and let crit-based absorbs cover the gaps. The Holy points buy Divine Fury for faster big heals and Inspiration for tank armor.

Your job in the group

You are the tank healer who stops damage before it lands. Read the pull: shield the tank a moment before the boss swings, keep a second shield ready for whoever a mechanic targets next, and let Penance and crit absorbs handle the rest. In a raid you pair well with a Holy Priest or a Shaman who covers group damage, while you keep the tank and the players under a debuff topped off. Power Infusion is also a raid tool: give it to a caster during a burn phase when healing is under control.

Why play it

  • Damage prevention. Soul Warding makes Power Word: Shield frequent enough to plan around, not just an emergency button.
  • Heals on the move. Penance and shields keep working during movement phases where cast-time healers stop.
  • Crits become shields. Divine Aegis turns overhealing on a topped-off tank into absorbs for the next hit.
  • Power Infusion. A raid cooldown that speeds up a friendly caster or your own emergency healing.

Weak points

  • Reactive raid healing: without Prayer of Mending or Spiritual Healing, heavy raid-wide damage is harder to keep up with than for Holy.
  • Weakened Soul: you cannot shield the same player twice in a row, so a tank under constant damage still needs big direct heals.
  • Crit reliance: Divine Aegis only works if your heals crit, which needs gear.
  • Untested numbers: Penance values and shield sizes may change before level 60 is playable.

Level 60 talent build

Discipline 33 / Holy 18 / Shadow 0, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.

Discipline (33)

  • Twin Disciplines 5/5 — Power Word: Shield, Renew and Penance are all instant, so this touches most of your healing.
  • Silent Resolve 2/3 — less threat from Holy spells while healing a fresh pull.
  • Improved Power Word: Shield 3/3 — bigger shields; the talent that Soul Warding and Renewed Hope build on.
  • Mental Agility 3/3 — cheaper instants, which is nearly your whole toolkit.
  • Inner Focus 1/1 — a free spell with extra crit; pair it with a Greater Heal to trigger Divine Aegis.
  • Meditation 3/3 — mana regeneration while casting, the Discipline answer to long fights.
  • Mental Strength 5/5 — more Intellect means a larger mana pool.
  • Soul Warding 1/1 — Power Word: Shield more often and for less mana.
  • Penance 1/1 — your signature heal: instant and strong on a single target.
  • Renewed Hope 5/5 — extra crit on heals cast on shielded targets, which feeds Divine Aegis.
  • Divine Aegis 3/3 — critical heals leave an absorb shield behind.
  • Power Infusion 1/1 — give it to a caster during burn phases or keep it for your own emergency healing.

Holy (18)

  • Holy Specialization 5/5 — crit for Holy spells, which again means more Divine Aegis.
  • Spell Warding 2/5 — less spell damage taken; filler points in that row.
  • Divine Fury 5/5 — faster Heal and Greater Heal for tank damage spikes.
  • Inspiration 3/3 — critical heals raise the tank’s armor.
  • Improved Healing 3/3 — cheaper Heal, Greater Heal and Penance.

Rotation and priority

  1. Shield the tank before the pull, and pre-shield anyone about to take a known hit; Soul Warding lets you do this far more often.
  2. When the tank takes damage, Penance first, then Heal or Greater Heal while Weakened Soul is still on them so Renewed Hope adds crit.
  3. Use Renew as the low-cost filler on players who will take damage for a while.
  4. On raid-wide damage, shield the lowest players, then Prayer of Healing on the group that took the most.
  5. Save Inner Focus for a Greater Heal on the tank during a spike; use Power Infusion on yourself only when the raid is falling behind.

Resources

Mana is the limiting factor. Shields and Penance are efficient when you place them before damage, wasteful when you spam them on full-health players. Inner Focus and Power Infusion are the two throughput cooldowns; Dark Sacrifice and potions are mana tools. Keep one cooldown ready for a tank death spiral.

Stat priority

  1. Healing power, the stat that scales shields, Penance and direct heals alike.
  2. Intellect for a larger pool and some crit.
  3. Mana per 5 seconds and Spirit, since Meditation lets both work in combat.
  4. Spell crit for Divine Aegis and Inspiration.
  5. Stamina only as much as the raid requires to survive.

Gear and set bonuses

The Disc and Holy Tier 1 set in the Forever data is Vestments of Conviction; the item names are still withheld. Bonuses: 2 pieces +10 Spirit, 3 pieces 60 sec off Fear Ward’s cooldown, 4 pieces up to 26 healing and 9 damage, 5 pieces 1 sec off Penance and Prayer of Mending. For Discipline the five-piece Penance reduction is the reason to finish the set. Before raids, the dungeon set Vestments of the Devout has new Forever bonuses, including a chance for spellcasts to restore 200 mana at five pieces.

Consumables and professions

  • Mana: Major Mana Potions and Demonic or Dark Runes if Forever keeps them, plus Mageblood Potion or a mana regeneration food.
  • Healing power: a Brilliant Mana Oil or Forever equivalent on your weapon.
  • Trainer spells: Dark Sacrifice trades health for mana on a long cooldown; use it early in a fight while healers are ahead.
  • Professions: Tailoring for cloth healing pieces, and Enchanting or Herbalism next to it.
