Overview

Level 60 · Discipline Priest in battlegrounds and world PvP.

Discipline is the hardest healer to kill. Instant Power Word: Shield on a short cooldown, Penance as an instant heal, and Divine Aegis absorbs from critical heals mean you can keep healing while moving and under attack. Martyrdom protects your casts after a melee crit, Spell Warding cuts spell damage taken and Blessed Recovery heals you back after big hits. Power Infusion can turn a friendly caster into a kill threat.

Your role in a fight

In battlegrounds your job is keeping flag carriers and point defenders alive while staying out of reach. Shield the teammate who is being attacked, dispel enemy effects with Dispel Magic, and Mana Burn enemy healers when your team has the upper hand. In world PvP, your shields and instants let you outlast most attackers until help arrives.

Darkspear Islands

Blizzard’s summary of Darkspear Islands is a 15 vs 15 battleground with control points plus Arathi Basin style flag captures and defense. Discipline suits defense: hold a point next to your team’s melee and keep shields rolling during the attackers’ first push. Maps, spawn points and timers are not announced.

Honor and ranks: WoW Forever is reported to bring a 14-rank Honor track, earned from battlegrounds and PvP content. Thresholds, weekly caps and decay are not announced; see the PvP and honor hub for what is confirmed.

Strengths

  • Very hard to kill. Instant shields, Penance, Divine Aegis absorbs and Blessed Recovery keep you standing under focus.
  • Healing while moving. Your best heals are instant, so kiting and line of sight do not stop your output.
  • Casts that survive pressure. Martyrdom and Spell Warding cut pushback and spell damage.
  • Turns allies into threats. Power Infusion makes a friendly caster’s burst window hit much harder.

Weak points

  • Purge and dispel: Shamans and Priests can remove your shields.
  • Healing reduction: Mortal Strike and similar effects make direct heals weak.
  • Silences: a Rogue’s Kick or a Shadow Priest’s Silence can lock you out for the key moment.
  • Low damage: you rarely kill anyone on your own.

Level 60 PvP talent build

Discipline 31 / Holy 20 / Shadow 0, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.

Discipline (31)

  • Twin Disciplines 5/5 — shields, Renew and Penance are your moving heals, and all get stronger.
  • Improved Power Word: Shield 3/3 — larger absorbs on every shield.
  • Martyrdom 2/2 — after a melee or ranged crit, pushback stops hurting your casts.
  • Mental Agility 3/3 — cheaper instants for a long fight.
  • Inner Focus 1/1 — a free heal with crit when mana is low.
  • Meditation 1/3 — one point for the path; PvP fights rarely allow long regeneration.
  • Improved Inner Fire 1/3 — more armor and charges from Inner Fire against melee.
  • Mental Strength 3/5 — a bit more mana pool.
  • Soul Warding 1/1 — Power Word: Shield more often and cheaper.
  • Improved Mana Burn 1/2 — a faster Mana Burn against enemy healers.
  • Penance 1/1 — an instant heal you can cast on the run.
  • Renewed Hope 5/5 — shielded targets receive heals with more crit chance.
  • Divine Aegis 3/3 — crit heals leave absorbs that soak the next burst.
  • Power Infusion 1/1 — give it to a friendly caster when your team pushes, or keep it for your own heals.

Holy (20)

  • Twilight Focus 3/3 — cast through damage without losing time.
  • Improved Renew 2/3 — stronger Renew on the move.
  • Spell Warding 5/5 — less spell damage taken, the best defensive talent against casters.
  • Divine Fury 1/5 — a small faster cast on Heal and Greater Heal.
  • Blessed Recovery 3/3 — heal back part of big hits automatically.
  • Inspiration 2/3 — crit heals give armor, useful on melee-focused teammates.
  • Improved Healing 3/3 — cheaper Heal and Penance.
  • Binding Heal 1/1 — heal a teammate and yourself when both are under attack.

Key abilities

  • Power Word: Shield: the first answer to any attack, on yourself or a teammate.
  • Penance: instant healing while moving or kiting.
  • Psychic Scream: break a melee attack on you or a healer.
  • Dispel Magic: remove crowd control from teammates and buffs from enemies.
  • Mana Burn: drain an enemy healer’s mana during a long fight.
  • Trainer spells: Confounding Flash confuses nearby enemies and Divine Grace is an instant heal on a target below half health; both are new Forever trainer spells in the data.

Matchups

  • Rogues · keep a shield on yourself, and Psychic Scream after their stun ends; Blessed Recovery softens the opener.
  • Warriors · Mortal Strike cuts your healing, so shield and kite rather than out-heal it.
  • Mages and Warlocks · Spell Warding makes you durable; dispel Polymorph from your healers.
  • Hunters · Viper Sting drains mana; stay out of range or dispel it.
  • Priests · Mana Burn fights favour whoever has more mana; Discipline’s instants help you win that race.
  • Shamans · Purge removes your shields; keep Soul Warding shields ready to reapply.

Resources and cooldowns

Mana decides long battles. Shields and Penance are efficient, Greater Heal spam is not. Power Infusion, Inner Focus and Psychic Scream are the three cooldowns to track; Fade is useful against pets and some attackers.

Gear

  • PvP sets: The Forever data lists four Priest PvP sets named Investiture (Champion’s, Lieutenant Commander’s, Field Marshal’s and Warlord’s). All of them carry the same three bonuses in different orders: +20 Stamina, 1 sec longer Psychic Scream, and up to 44 healing and 15 spell damage. For a healer the healing bonus and Stamina are both useful.
  • Stats: Stamina and healing power, then Intellect and spell crit.

Consumables and engineering

  • Consumables: Free Action Potion, Major Mana Potion and a Healthstone from a Warlock.
  • Professions: Engineering for a trinket and grenades is a strong PvP choice; Tailoring for gear otherwise.
