Overview

Level 60 · Assassination Rogue · DPS in dungeons and raids.

Forever turns Assassination from a support tree into a full damage spec. Mutilate hits with both daggers at once and awards two combo points, Venom is a finisher that amplifies every poison tick and proc, and Seal Fate turns crits into extra points. The result is a Rogue whose damage is split between weapon strikes and poisons, which also means it cares about poison application more than any Classic Rogue did. Expect to stand behind the target, keep Venom and Slice and Dice rolling, and dump spare points into Eviscerate. This is a theorycraft built from the Classic dagger raid build plus the new talents; tune it once Forever’s level 60 content can be tested.

Your job in the group

You are single-target melee damage that lives behind the boss. Keep your poisons applied before every pull, keep Venom and Slice and Dice running and let the tank build a lead before you open. Rogues bring no raid buffs, so your value is damage plus the utility calls a raid leader makes: Kick on casting adds, Expose Armor if no Warrior owns Sunder Armor, and a Feint or Vanish instead of a wipe when threat gets close.

Why play it

  • Two damage sources. Mutilate hits and poison ticks both scale with crit, so damage stays high when one of them is resisted a little.
  • Fast five-point finishers. Seal Fate and Mutilate’s two points mean Venom, Slice and Dice and Eviscerate come around quickly.
  • Cold Blood on demand. A guaranteed Mutilate crit lines up with trinkets for burn phases.
  • Poisons ignore armor. Plate-wearing bosses hurt your weapon damage less than they hurt a Combat Rogue’s.

Weak points

  • Positional: Mutilate is written as a two-weapon attack; if it turns out to need you behind the target, bosses that turn often will cost you damage.
  • Buff juggling: Slice and Dice and Venom both need upkeep, so short fights and add waves lose value.
  • Poison immune targets: half of the damage vanishes against enemies that resist Nature or poisons.
  • Daggers only: you need two decent daggers before the build works, which makes early 60 gear harder than for Combat swords.

Level 60 talent build

Assassination 36 / Combat 13 / Subtlety 2, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.

Assassination (36)

  • Malice 5/5 — flat crit for strikes and poisons, and the gate to Lethality.
  • Ruthlessness 3/3 — a free point after most finishers keeps the Venom and Slice and Dice cycle short.
  • Murder 2/2 — most dungeon trash and many bosses are Humanoids or Giants; drop it for a raid where they are not.
  • Relentless Strikes 1/1 — Energy back from finishers, the main reason the rotation does not stall.
  • Lethality 5/5 — Mutilate crits are where most weapon damage comes from.
  • Vile Poisons 5/5 — raw poison damage, plus dispel resistance that matters on hostile casters.
  • Cold Blood 1/1 — a guaranteed Mutilate crit for burn phases, which also feeds Seal Fate.
  • Improved Poisons 5/5 — more poison applications and fewer charges spent; poisons are half of this build’s output.
  • Vigor 2/2 — a bigger Energy bar lets you pool for Mutilate plus a finisher.
  • Venom 1/1 — the new Assassination finisher: stronger and more frequent poison hits while it is up.
  • Seal Fate 5/5 — Mutilate crits add a bonus combo point, so five-point finishers come faster.
  • Mutilate 1/1 — the capstone and your builder for the whole fight.

Combat (13)

  • Improved Eviscerate 3/3 — Eviscerate is the spender once Venom and Slice and Dice are running.
  • Lightning Reflexes 2/5 — the cheapest way into the Combat tier two talents; some survivability against stray hits.
  • Puncturing Wounds 3/3 — extra crit chance on Mutilate itself, which compounds with Seal Fate and Lethality.
  • Deflection 2/3 — leftover points that still help when a pull turns on you.
  • Precision 3/3 — hit for weapons and poisons, the stat that matters most until you reach the cap.

Subtlety (2)

  • Opportunity 2/2 — Mutilate is on the list, so these two Subtlety points are pure damage.

Rotation and priority

  1. Open with Garrote or Cheap Shot only if the pull allows it; on most bosses walk in behind the tank and start with Mutilate.
  2. At 2 or more combo points apply Slice and Dice so auto attacks and poison procs keep ticking.
  3. Mutilate to 4–5 points and cast Venom; keep it running whenever the target will live through its duration.
  4. With Slice and Dice and Venom both up, spend 5 points on Eviscerate; use Cold Blood on a Mutilate to force Seal Fate.
  5. Refresh whichever buff runs out first before spending on Eviscerate again, and pool Energy a moment before it falls off.
  6. Use Expose Armor only if no Warrior in the group is applying Sunder Armor; ask the raid lead which one they want.

Resources

Energy is the only resource, and Relentless Strikes plus Vigor decide how smooth it feels. Pool to roughly a full bar before the tank pulls so the first Mutilate, Slice and Dice and Venom land together. Cold Blood is a burst button: line it up with trinkets. Vanish and Feint are threat tools, not damage cooldowns; use Feint before the boss has to be tanked by you, not after.

Stat priority

  1. Hit until your special attacks and poisons stop missing; Precision and the Grimstitch two-piece count toward it.
  2. Agility, which gives crit, attack power and dodge together.
  3. Crit from gear, because Seal Fate, Lethality and Puncturing Wounds all multiply its value.
  4. Attack Power and Strength after that.
  5. Dagger damage on both hands, with the main hand mattering most for Mutilate.

Gear and set bonuses

The Rogue Tier 1 set in the Forever data is Grimstitch Armor; the piece names and drop locations are still withheld in the client. Its bonuses: 2 pieces +1% hit, 3 pieces 3 sec off Kidney Shot’s cooldown, 4 pieces +36 Attack Power against Humanoids, 5 pieces 5 Energy off Envenom and Eviscerate. For this build the two-piece hit and the five-piece Energy saving on Eviscerate are the useful parts; the Kidney Shot bonus rarely matters against bosses. Whether Envenom exists as a separate Forever ability next to Venom is not clear from the data yet, so treat that half of the five-piece as unconfirmed. Before Tier 1, the dungeon sets Shadowcraft Armor and Darkmantle Armor have new Forever bonuses (both add a chance to restore 20 Energy on melee attacks).

Consumables and professions

  • Poisons: Instant Poison in the main hand and Deadly Poison in the off hand is the usual Classic split; test whether Venom favours the faster ticking poison once you can log in at 60.
  • Agility and attack power: Elixir of the Mongoose and Juju Power or Elixir of Giants, if Forever keeps those Classic recipes.
  • Weapon enchants: Crusader or another agility enchant on both daggers; poisons already take the temporary weapon slot, so skip sharpening stones.
  • Potions: Thistle Tea for Energy and a Free Action Potion for fights with roots or stuns.
  • Professions: Engineering for Goblin Sapper Charges and grenades; Skinning or Mining with it for gold, or Alchemy if you prefer to make your own elixirs.
