Theorycrafted before the WoW Forever beta (September 17, 2026). The leveling plan follows the proven Classic leveling builds, the talents use the pre-release WoW Forever trees on this site, and ability levels quoted from Classic may differ in Forever. Expect updates once the beta is testable.

Overview

Levels 30–60 · Assassination Rogue, solo questing and grinding.

Assassination is the burst-heavy alternative to Combat. It follows the Classic Assassination/Combat hybrid, but the Forever tree adds two new tools: Venom, a finisher that makes your poisons stronger, and Mutilate at the bottom, a two-weapon strike worth 2 combo points that hits harder on poisoned targets. Crits from Malice and Lethality feed Seal Fate, so a lucky Mutilate can go straight to a 5-point Eviscerate. The guide is aimed at players who reach 30 and want to respec; the order below still starts at level 10, so a fresh character can follow it too, playing Sinister Strike and Eviscerate until Mutilate arrives.

Why this build

  • Very short kills: Cold Blood plus a 5-point Eviscerate removes most of a same-level mob’s health in one global cooldown.
  • Fast combo points: Mutilate awards 2, and Seal Fate adds one more whenever it crits.
  • Poisons do real work: Vile Poisons and Venom add damage that keeps ticking while you Gouge and bandage.
  • Improved Kidney Shot: everything you stun takes 10% more damage, so Kidney Shot is both control and burst.

Weak spots

  • Weak defence: no Riposte and only a few Combat defensive points; Evasion is on the long Classic cooldown.
  • Burst, then pause: long fights and multiple adds drain your Energy faster than Combat.
  • Poison upkeep: you need to keep poisons applied and buy them often, which costs gold.

Talent order by level

One point per level from level 10 to 60. The talent tree above shows the finished level 60 build; use the level slider to see it at any level.

  • Levels 10–14 · Malice 5/5 — +5% crit with attacks and poisons, and required for Lethality.
  • Levels 15–16 · Remorseless Attacks 2/2 — After each kill, your next Sinister Strike or Mutilate gets up to 40% extra crit chance.
  • Levels 17–19 · Ruthlessness 3/3 — 60% chance for a finisher to leave a combo point behind.
  • Level 20 · Relentless Strikes 1/1 — 20% chance per combo point to restore 25 Energy when you finish.
  • Levels 21–25 · Lethality 5/5 — +30% crit damage bonus on Sinister Strike, Backstab and Mutilate.
  • Level 26 · Cold Blood 1/1 — Your next Sinister Strike, Backstab, Ambush, Eviscerate or Mutilate is a guaranteed crit.
  • Levels 27–29 · Vile Poisons 3/5 — +20% poison damage.
  • Level 30 · Venom 1/1 — New finisher: poisons deal 30% more damage and apply 10% more often, lasting 9–21 sec by combo points.
  • Levels 31–32 · Improved Kidney Shot 2/2 — Mobs stunned by Kidney Shot take 10% more damage from your attacks and poisons.
  • Levels 33–34 · Vile Poisons 5/5 — finish the talent.
  • Levels 35–39 · Seal Fate 5/5 — Crits from combo-building strikes add an extra combo point.
  • Level 40 · Mutilate 1/1 — Strikes with both weapons for 2 combo points, 20% stronger on poisoned targets.
  • Levels 41–43 · Improved Eviscerate (Combat) 3/3 — +21% Eviscerate damage.
  • Levels 44–45 · Lightning Reflexes (Combat) 2/5 — +2% Dodge and the points needed for the next Combat row.
  • Levels 46–48 · Precision (Combat) 3/3 — +3% hit with attacks and poisons.
  • Levels 49–51 · Puncturing Wounds (Combat) 3/3 — +15% crit chance on Mutilate (and more on Backstab), which feeds Seal Fate.
  • Levels 52–53 · Endurance (Combat) 2/2 — Sprint and Evasion cooldowns 60% shorter.
  • Levels 54–55 · Deflection (Combat) 2/3 — +4% Parry for fewer bandage breaks.
  • Levels 56–60 · Dual Wield Specialization (Combat) 5/5 — +25% off-hand damage, including the off-hand half of Mutilate.

Key levels

  • Level 14 · Malice 5/5: +5% crit, the base for everything else in this tree.
  • Level 20 · Relentless Strikes, and the poison quest: put Instant Poison on both weapons.
  • Level 26 · Cold Blood: a guaranteed crit on your next Sinister Strike or Eviscerate, every 3 minutes in Classic.
  • Level 30 · Venom and Kidney Shot: poisons hit 30% harder while Venom lasts.
  • Level 39 · Seal Fate 5/5: every crit from a combo move adds an extra point.
  • Level 40 · Mutilate: two daggers are the natural choice, and Puncturing Wounds later adds crit to it.
  • Level 60 · Dual Wield Specialization 5/5 finishes the Combat side for a stronger off hand.

How to pull and kill

  1. Open from Stealth with Cheap Shot or Garrote, then Mutilate (Sinister Strike before 40) to build points.
  2. Refresh Venom at 1–2 combo points when the fight will last; on a normal quest mob go straight to damage.
  3. At 5 points use Eviscerate, or Kidney Shot first if the mob is dangerous so Improved Kidney Shot boosts the next hits.
  4. Pop Cold Blood before an Eviscerate to finish a mob or before Mutilate to guarantee a Seal Fate point.
  5. If a second mob joins, Gouge it, kill the first quickly, then deal with the add. Blind (level 34 in Classic) and Vanish are your resets.

Leveling tips

  • Weapons: Mutilate strikes with both weapons, so match two daggers. Hack and Slash from Combat also rewards daggers with crit if you ever respec.
  • Poisons: Instant Poison is best for burst; Deadly Poison (level 30 in Classic) on the off hand is strong on longer fights with Venom.
  • Vendor trash: buy Flash Powder and poison reagents in bulk before a long session instead of flying back.
  • Stealth routing: use Stealth to skip mobs you do not need on the way to quest targets; Assassination has no talents that reward long fights.
  • Zones: Arathi Highlands and Stranglethorn Vale in the 30s, Tanaris, Feralas and the Hinterlands in the 40s, Felwood and Winterspring in the 50s.
  • Dungeons: in groups, Venom and Vile Poisons are steady boss damage, for example in Zul’Farrak (45–51) or Sunken Temple (52–58).

After level 60

At 60 swap Lightning Reflexes and Endurance into Improved Poisons for a raid-focused poison build, or keep them for open-world PvP.
