Overview

Level 60 · Assassination Rogue in battlegrounds and world PvP.

This is the stun-and-burst Rogue. Everything is built toward one window: open, Kidney Shot while Improved Kidney Shot makes the target take extra damage, and land Cold Blood Mutilate plus a five-point Eviscerate before the stun ends. Poisons keep working after the burst, and Vile Poisons makes them harder to cleanse. The Combat points buy the escape and interrupt tools a Rogue needs in groups: Improved Sprint breaks roots and slows, Improved Kick silences, Endurance halves your Evasion and Sprint waits.

Your role in a fight

In battlegrounds you are the target killer. Stay stealthed until healers or cloth casters commit, then delete one and reset with Vanish. In open world PvP on the PvP ruleset, the same plan works on anyone travelling alone. You bring no group healing and little area damage, so pick fights you can finish.

Darkspear Islands

Blizzard describes Darkspear Islands as a new 15 vs 15 battleground that mixes control points with Arathi Basin style flag captures and defense; the layout and rules beyond that are not published. For an Assassination Rogue that suggests two jobs: sneaking to lightly guarded points to force defenders to respond, and killing enemy flag carriers with a stun chain. Check /pvp on this site for anything confirmed.

Honor and ranks: WoW Forever is reported to bring a 14-rank Honor track, earned from battlegrounds and PvP content. Thresholds, weekly caps and decay are not announced; see the PvP and honor hub for what is confirmed.

Strengths

  • The biggest single window. Cold Blood, Seal Fate and Improved Kidney Shot can take a cloth wearer from full health inside one stun.
  • Poisons that stick. Vile Poisons makes cleanses less reliable, so damage keeps coming after the burst.
  • Escape tools. Improved Sprint breaks roots and slows, and Endurance shortens Sprint and Evasion.
  • Healer lockdown. Improved Kick silences a heal at the moment it matters.

Weak points

  • All-in burst: if the target survives the Kidney Shot window, the fight gets much harder.
  • Dispels: Shamans, Druids and Priests can remove poisons that half of your damage relies on.
  • No short Vanish: without Elusiveness and Preparation, one Vanish per fight is the norm.
  • Group fights: focused area damage kills you fast; stay out of large fights at control points.

Level 60 PvP talent build

Assassination 34 / Combat 17 / Subtlety 0, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.

Assassination (34)

  • Improved Gouge 3/3 — a longer Gouge gives time to bandage, reset behind a target or wait for Kidney Shot energy.
  • Malice 5/5 — crit chance, which feeds Seal Fate and makes burst reliable.
  • Ruthlessness 3/3 — a chance at a free point after Kidney Shot, ready for Eviscerate.
  • Murder 2/2 — every enemy player is Humanoid, so this is always on.
  • Relentless Strikes 1/1 — Energy back after Kidney Shot so the follow-up is affordable.
  • Lethality 5/5 — Mutilate crits are the core of the kill window.
  • Vile Poisons 5/5 — harder to dispel poisons and more poison damage over a long fight.
  • Cold Blood 1/1 — a guaranteed crit on Mutilate or Eviscerate exactly when you need it.
  • Venom 1/1 — for longer duels where poison damage wins; skip it during a short stun window.
  • Improved Kidney Shot 2/2 — the stunned target takes more damage from both your poisons and your attacks.
  • Seal Fate 5/5 — crits give an extra point, so one Cold Blood Mutilate can lead into a full Eviscerate.
  • Mutilate 1/1 — two combo points per press from both daggers.

Combat (17)

  • Improved Eviscerate 3/3 — Eviscerate is the finisher that ends the target.
  • Lightning Reflexes 2/5 — dodge against warriors and other Rogues.
  • Deflection 3/3 — parry chance, and the way to Riposte.
  • Precision 2/3 — hit to keep Kick and Kidney Shot from missing.
  • Endurance 2/2 — Evasion and Sprint come back far sooner.
  • Riposte 1/1 — a disarm on parry against melee.
  • Improved Sprint 2/2 — Sprint breaks roots and slows: your escape from Frost Nova and Hamstring.
  • Improved Kick 2/2 — Kick also silences, which stops healers from casting the next spell.

Key abilities

  • Cheap Shot → Mutilate → Kidney Shot: the opener that sets up Improved Kidney Shot’s damage window.
  • Cold Blood: save it for a Mutilate or Eviscerate inside Kidney Shot.
  • Blind: removes a healer or a second attacker for the length of your burst.
  • Vanish: breaks roots and resets the fight; the Forever version of Elusiveness is in Subtlety, so you will not have a shorter cooldown here.
  • Kick with Improved Kick: interrupt and silence a heal at low health.
  • Crippling Poison: off-hand option against runners and flag carriers.

Matchups

  • Warriors · Evasion and Lightning Reflexes blunt their pressure; kite with Crippling Poison when their cooldowns are up.
  • Mages · Improved Sprint breaks Frost Nova; open on them from stealth before they can Blink away.
  • Priests · Psychic Scream is instant, so bait it first and re-open with Vanish once it is on cooldown; Vile Poisons helps your poisons survive their dispels.
  • Paladins · hardest target for burst; wait for Divine Shield or leave them.
  • Druids and Shamans · they cleanse poisons; Vile Poisons gives the poisons a chance to stay.
  • Other Rogues · whoever opens first usually wins; keep Blind and Vanish ready.

Resources and cooldowns

Kill windows are limited by Energy, not cooldowns. Pool to a full bar in stealth, and let Relentless Strikes return Energy after Kidney Shot. Vanish and Evasion are your only resets and Blind is your only way to split a pair, so count them before you commit.

Gear

  • Weapons: a slow main-hand dagger for Mutilate and a fast off-hand for poisons.
  • Stats: Stamina first so you live long enough to finish a Kidney Shot window, then hit until Kick rarely misses, then agility.
  • PvP sets: the Forever PvP set names for Rogues are not in this site’s data yet; check the /pvp hub for the rank rewards.

Consumables and engineering

  • Consumables: Free Action Potion, Thistle Tea, bandages and grenades if you are an engineer.
  • Professions: Engineering for grenades, Net-o-Matic and Rocket Boots; First Aid at the highest bandage.
