Overview
Level 60 · Combat Rogue · DPS in dungeons and raids.
Combat is the most forgiving Rogue at 60 because nothing depends on standing behind a target or on poisons. You swing two swords, build points with Sinister Strike and keep Slice and Dice up for the whole fight. In Forever, Hack and Slash replaces Sword Specialization and Restless Blades feeds finisher combo points back into Blade Flurry, Adrenaline Rush and Vanish, so a long boss sees those cooldowns more often than in Classic. Weapon Expertise removes dodges and parries that used to waste Energy. This build takes the raid Combat core and spends the rest in Assassination for crit and Energy returns.
Your job in the group
Your job is steady melee damage from the first second to the last, plus cleave when adds stand next to the boss. Combat has no positional requirement, so on fights where the boss turns or the tank moves you keep hitting while dagger Rogues reposition. You also cover interrupts with Kick and manage your own threat: Adrenaline Rush is the moment you are most likely to pull, so watch the meter right after it.
Why play it
- No positioning tax. Sinister Strike works from any angle, so moving bosses cost you less damage than any other Rogue build.
- Cooldowns come back often. Restless Blades shortens Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush with every finisher on a long fight.
- Cleave built in. Blade Flurry turns two-target phases and dungeon trash into extra damage without a separate rotation.
- Forgiving rotation. Slice and Dice, Sinister Strike and Eviscerate is easy to execute while you watch boss mechanics.
Weak points
- Threat: Adrenaline Rush plus cleave can pull aggro early in a fight.
- Weapon dependence: the build needs two good swords; a single weak off-hand drops the white damage noticeably.
- Burst windows: outside of cooldowns Combat does steady damage, not burst, which feels slow on short dungeon pulls.
- Humanoid bonuses: Murder and the Grimstitch four-piece do nothing against Elementals, Undead or Beasts.
Level 60 talent build
Assassination 18 / Combat 33 / Subtlety 0, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.
Combat (33)
- Improved Eviscerate 3/3 — Eviscerate is the only damage finisher this build uses.
- Improved Sinister Strike 2/2 — your builder costs less, which is more Sinister Strikes per minute.
- Lightning Reflexes 1/5 — the fifteenth point needed to open tier four.
- Deflection 3/3 — required for Riposte and a little safety when a boss turns.
- Precision 3/3 — hit chance for everything; the first stop on the way to the cap.
- Endurance 2/2 — shorter Evasion and Sprint for trash accidents and running mechanics.
- Riposte 1/1 — rarely usable on bosses, but it is the only path point before the tier three talents.
- Restless Blades 1/1 — every Eviscerate or Slice and Dice cuts Adrenaline Rush, Blade Flurry and Vanish cooldowns.
- Dual Wield Specialization 5/5 — the off-hand sword is a large share of your white damage.
- Blade Flurry 1/1 — attack speed on single targets and cleave when two enemies stand together.
- Hack and Slash 5/5 — extra swings with swords; with daggers it becomes crit instead.
- Weapon Expertise 2/2 — fewer dodges and parries on Sinister Strike from behind or in front.
- Aggression 3/3 — a straight damage increase to Sinister Strike and Eviscerate.
- Adrenaline Rush 1/1 — double Energy regeneration, your biggest burst window.
Assassination (18)
- Malice 5/5 — crit for Lethality to multiply.
- Ruthlessness 3/3 — free combo points after finishers keep Slice and Dice and Eviscerate alternating.
- Murder 2/2 — damage against Humanoids and Giants; move these into Improved Slice and Dice’s last rank for other raids.
- Improved Slice and Dice 2/3 — longer Slice and Dice means fewer Energy spent on upkeep.
- Relentless Strikes 1/1 — Energy back from five-point finishers.
- Lethality 5/5 — bigger Sinister Strike crits.
Rotation and priority
- Sinister Strike to one or two points and open with Slice and Dice; it should stay up for the entire fight.
- Build to 5 points with Sinister Strike, then refresh Slice and Dice if it has less than a few seconds left, otherwise cast Eviscerate.
- Press Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush together with trinkets early in the fight; Restless Blades brings them back sooner, so do not hold them.
- When two enemies stand in melee range, Blade Flurry becomes a cleave: save one charge for those moments if the fight has adds.
- Watch your threat meter after Adrenaline Rush; Feint before you overtake the tank, and Vanish as the last resort.
Resources
Energy is steady thanks to Relentless Strikes and Adrenaline Rush, so the risk is wasting it at the cap. Keep Slice and Dice up first, because every white swing drives Hack and Slash. Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush are on cooldown loops shortened by Restless Blades, so the right use is almost always ‘now’. Keep Vanish and Evasion for threat and cleave accidents.
Stat priority
- Hit first; a Combat Rogue with two swords loses a lot of damage to misses on white hits.
- Sword skill from racials or items, if weapon skill works as in Classic.
- Agility for crit, attack power and armor in one stat.
- Attack Power and Strength.
- Crit from items, which also triggers Lethality on Sinister Strike.
Gear and set bonuses
The Rogue Tier 1 set in the Forever data is Grimstitch Armor; the piece names and drop locations are still withheld in the client. Its bonuses: 2 pieces +1% hit, 3 pieces 3 sec off Kidney Shot’s cooldown, 4 pieces +36 Attack Power against Humanoids, 5 pieces 5 Energy off Envenom and Eviscerate. Combat gets full value from the two-piece hit and the five-piece Eviscerate discount, since Eviscerate is your only damage finisher. Four pieces add attack power only against Humanoids, so its value depends on the raid. Pre-raid, the Forever versions of Shadowcraft Armor and Darkmantle Armor both have an Energy-restoring melee proc worth considering against off-set pieces.
Consumables and professions
- Weapons: Crusader is the Classic enchant to aim for on both swords; poisons take the temporary enchant slot, so sharpening stones are out.
- Poisons: Instant Poison on both weapons is simple; Hack and Slash extra attacks give poisons more chances to apply.
- Elixirs and food: Elixir of the Mongoose, Juju Power and agility or strength food if Forever keeps the Classic recipes.
- Emergency: Thistle Tea, Major Healing Potion and Free Action Potion.
- Professions: Engineering is the standard raid pick for Sapper Charges and grenades; pair it with a gathering profession for gold.
