Overview
Level 60 · Combat Rogue in battlegrounds and world PvP.
Combat PvP is less about one opener and more about staying on a target. Adrenaline Rush lets you chain Kidney Shot, Gouge and Sinister Strike, Blade Flurry hits two players who stand together, and Restless Blades turns every finisher into shorter Evasion, Sprint and Vanish cooldowns. You give up Cold Blood and Seal Fate, but you get Riposte’s disarm, a silencing Kick and the dodge and parry talents that make melee duels easier.
Your role in a fight
In battlegrounds Combat excels at fighting over objectives where enemies clump, since Blade Flurry turns single-target pressure into two targets. In world PvP it handles long fights and second attackers better than a burst build.
Darkspear Islands
The only published description of Darkspear Islands is a 15 vs 15 battleground with control points plus flag captures and defense. Combat suits the defense half: guarding a point where attackers arrive in pairs, with Blade Flurry up and Sprint ready to chase a flag carrier. Details beyond that official summary are not known yet.
Honor and ranks: WoW Forever is reported to bring a 14-rank Honor track, earned from battlegrounds and PvP content. Thresholds, weekly caps and decay are not announced; see the PvP and honor hub for what is confirmed.
Strengths
- Pressure that does not stop. Adrenaline Rush pays for stuns, Gouge and damage in the same window.
- Two targets at once. Blade Flurry punishes healers who stand next to the player you are hitting.
- Melee duels. Deflection, Riposte’s disarm and Weapon Expertise favour you against Warriors and other Rogues.
- Escape cooldowns return quickly. Restless Blades cuts Evasion, Sprint and Vanish with every finisher.
Weak points
- No opener burst: there is no Cold Blood or Premeditation, so healers have time to react.
- Kiting: Hunters and Frost Mages who keep distance are hard work despite Improved Sprint.
- One Vanish: no Preparation means one reset per fight.
- Disarms: Riposte helps you, but an enemy disarm removes Hack and Slash and most of your damage.
Level 60 PvP talent build
Assassination 17 / Combat 34 / Subtlety 0, all 51 points. The talent tree above shows the finished build.
Combat (34)
- Improved Eviscerate 3/3 — your kill finisher hits harder.
- Improved Sinister Strike 2/2 — cheaper builds during long fights.
- Deflection 3/3 — parry chance against melee, needed for Riposte.
- Precision 3/3 — fewer misses on Kick, Gouge and Kidney Shot.
- Endurance 2/2 — Evasion and Sprint more often; Restless Blades shortens them further.
- Riposte 1/1 — disarm a Warrior or Rogue after a parry.
- Improved Sprint 2/2 — removes roots and slows, the counter to Frost Nova and Hamstring.
- Improved Kick 2/2 — a silence on top of the interrupt.
- Restless Blades 1/1 — finishers shorten Evasion, Sprint, Vanish, Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush.
- Dual Wield Specialization 3/5 — three ranks is enough to reach Blade Flurry without starving the Assassination side.
- Blade Flurry 1/1 — attack speed and a second target during group fights.
- Hack and Slash 5/5 — extra attacks with swords keep poisons and damage flowing.
- Weapon Expertise 2/2 — enemy melee classes dodge and parry less of your attacks.
- Aggression 3/3 — more damage from Sinister Strike and Eviscerate.
- Adrenaline Rush 1/1 — double Energy: chain stuns, Gouge and damage in one window.
Assassination (17)
- Improved Gouge 3/3 — Gouge lasts longer for bandages and resets.
- Malice 5/5 — crit chance, and the gate to Lethality.
- Ruthlessness 3/3 — occasional free points after Kidney Shot.
- Relentless Strikes 1/1 — Energy returns after five-point finishers.
- Lethality 5/5 — Sinister Strike crits hit hard enough to finish runners.
Key abilities
- Adrenaline Rush + Kidney Shot: Kidney Shot, Sinister Strike to five points, then Eviscerate or a second stun.
- Blade Flurry: press it when a healer stands next to the player you are hitting.
- Gouge: interrupt a cast, then move behind the target or bandage.
- Evasion and Riposte: win a melee duel by parrying and disarming.
- Sprint: breaks roots with Improved Sprint; Restless Blades brings it back quickly.
- Kick: silence healers when they start a big heal.
Matchups
- Warriors · pop Evasion when they close in; Riposte disarms and Crippling Poison keeps them slow.
- Hunters · close the distance with Sprint, then stay in melee range; traps are the main danger.
- Warlocks · fear and damage over time outlast you; save Vanish for a fear and kill the Warlock, not the pet.
- Mages · Improved Sprint beats Frost Nova, but save Kick for Polymorph on your healer or a big spell.
- Paladins · do not waste Adrenaline Rush into Divine Shield.
- Shamans · Kick Healing Wave, and watch for Grounding Totem absorbing Blind.
Resources and cooldowns
With Adrenaline Rush active you have more Energy than you can spend on damage alone, so spend it on control: Gouge, Kidney Shot, Kick. Outside of it, use Relentless Strikes and full finishers to keep Restless Blades working on your escape cooldowns.
Gear
- Weapons: a slow main-hand sword for Sinister Strike and a fast off-hand for Hack and Slash procs and poisons.
- Poisons: Crippling Poison on the off hand in battlegrounds, Instant Poison in the main hand.
- Stats: Stamina first, then hit, then agility and attack power.
Consumables and engineering
- Consumables: Free Action Potion, Thistle Tea, Major Healing Potions and bandages.
- Professions: Engineering for grenades and Rocket Boots; the second can be anything that pays for consumables.
