The duo at a glance
Rogue & Druid Duo for levels 10–35: a Feral Druid who tanks in Bear Form and heals between pulls and a dagger Combat Rogue who Backstabs everything.
A solo Rogue kills quickly and then eats after every second fight; a Druid can do almost anything but kills slowly early on. Together the Druid holds mobs in Bear Form, the Rogue stands behind them and Backstabs, and between pulls the Druid shifts out for Rejuvenation and Regrowth so nobody sits down. Because the bear is always in front, the Rogue can level with daggers, which a solo Rogue struggles to do. Both classes also have stealth tools, so the duo can slip past camps to reach quest objectives. The duo works for Alliance (Night Elf Druid) and Horde (Tauren Druid). It is strongest from 10 to 35: once Bear Form, Blade Flurry and Leader of the Pack are online, the pair kills small packs without any downtime.
| Role | Spec | Job |
|---|---|---|
| DPS | Combat Rogue | Saps the extra mob, Backstabs from behind the bear, Blade Flurry on two-mob pulls |
| Tank | Feral Combat Druid | Bear Form tank with Maul and Swipe, Leader of the Pack, shifts out to heal both between pulls |
Both specs link to their own guide with the talents for that half of the duo.
How the rogue & druid duo plays
- The bear goes first. The Druid pulls with Faerie Fire or Feral Charge, shifts to Bear Form and uses Demoralizing Roar on groups. The Rogue waits for two Maul or Swipe hits before attacking.
- The Rogue attacks from behind. With the mob turned to the bear, Backstab replaces Sinister Strike. Puncturing Wounds adds crit chance and combo points to Backstab.
- Leader of the Pack from 30. 3% crit for both of you while the Druid is in a form, which feeds the Rogue’s crit talents and the Druid’s Primal Fury Rage.
- Heal after the pull. The Druid stays in Bear Form while the fight is under control, shifts out when it ends, and uses Rejuvenation on the Rogue and Regrowth on themselves, then drinks while the Rogue loots.
- Sap and Hibernate stretch the pull. The Rogue saps one humanoid; the Druid can Hibernate a beast or root a caster. Kill the loose mobs first.
Your job as Feral Combat Druid
You tank and you heal, but not at the same time. In a fight, stay in Bear Form and keep every mob on you so the Rogue can Backstab; after the fight, shift out and heal both of you with Rejuvenation and Regrowth. Ferocity and Feral Instinct make Maul and Swipe cheaper and stronger for threat, Sharpened Claws and Primal Fury turn crits into Rage, and Leader of the Pack at 30 gives the Rogue 3% crit. Forever also adds Mangle to the Feral tree and gives Feral Charge a Cat Form version; in this duo you use the bear charge to pull and interrupt casters.
Pull by pull
- Mark of the Wild and Thorns on both of you. Pull with Faerie Fire or Feral Charge in Bear Form.
- Demoralizing Roar on groups, then Maul the kill target and Swipe when two or more mobs are on you.
- Tell the Rogue which mob dies first; tab-Swipe or Maul the others so they stay on you.
- After the last mob: shift out, Rejuvenation on the Rogue, Regrowth on yourself if needed, then drink only when mana is below half.
- If the Rogue pulls threat, Growl the mob back; if a pull is lost, Bash the hardest hitter and heal in caster form while the Rogue uses Evasion.
Mistakes that get the duo killed
- Shifting out mid-fight to heal a Rogue at 60% health: you lose your Rage, the mobs hit the Rogue harder, and you pay the shift cost twice.
- Swiping next to a sapped or hibernated mob.
- Pulling with Wrath in caster form and shifting late: the first hits land on a Druid without Bear Form armor.
- Letting mana drop to nothing: without it you cannot heal, and the duo stops anyway.
Talent order by level
One point per level from level 10. The talent tree above shows the finished level 35 build; use the level slider to see it at any level.
- Levels 10–14 · Ferocity 5/5 — 5 Rage cheaper Maul, Swipe and Mangle (and Energy for cat abilities): more threat per fight.
- Levels 15–17 · Feral Instinct 3/3 — +30% Swipe damage, your threat on two- and three-mob pulls.
- Levels 18–19 · Thick Hide 2/3 — More base armor in Bear Form, so the bear takes less damage and you heal less afterwards.
- Levels 20–21 · Sharpened Claws 2/2 — +6% crit in forms, which feeds Primal Fury Rage.
- Levels 22–23 · Savage Fury 2/2 — +10% Maul, Swipe, Claw, Rake and Shred damage; it also unlocks Mangle.
- Level 24 · Feral Charge 1/1 — Charge a mob, root it and interrupt its spell: your pull on casters and your interrupt in the fight.
- Levels 25–26 · Primal Fury 2/2 — A 50% chance for 5 Rage whenever you crit in Bear Form.
- Levels 27–29 · Predatory Strikes 3/3 — Attack power equal to 150% of your level in forms: a big boost to bear threat at low gear.
- Level 30 · Leader of the Pack 1/1 — 3% crit for both of you while you are in a form. The Rogue’s Backstabs benefit the most.
- Level 31 · Mangle 1/1 — Forever talent: a strong single-target hit for your kill target, alongside Maul.
- Level 32 · Thick Hide 3/3 — finish the talent.
- Levels 33–34 · Predatory Instincts 2/2 — +20% critical strike damage on your melee abilities.
- Level 35 · Natural Reaction 1/5 — More dodge and Rage when you dodge. One point here at 35; finish it as you keep leveling.
Where to level
10–20: Night Elves start in Teldrassil and Darkshore, Tauren in Mulgore and the Barrens; the Rogue joins in the starting zones or in Westfall and Loch Modan (Alliance) or Silverpine Forest (Horde). Bear Form comes at 10 in Classic, so the duo shape starts right away. Ragefire Chasm (13–19) for Horde, Hall of Thanes (13–18) beneath Ironforge for Alliance and Ruins of Lordaeron (15–20) are good first dungeons with a group, where the bear tanks and the Rogue opens chests. 20–30: Ashenvale, Redridge, Duskwood and the Wetlands (Alliance) or Hillsbrad Foothills and Thousand Needles (Horde). Cat Form arrives at 20 in Classic; stay in Bear Form in the duo and use Cat Form for Prowl travel. The Deadmines (18–24), Wailing Caverns (19–25), Shadowfang Keep (23–29), Blackfathom Deeps (25–31) and The Stockade (26–32) are all fine with the Druid tanking. 30–35: Arathi Highlands, Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace and Hillsbrad. City of Dalaran (28–33) and Razorfen Kraul (30–36) end the range; the duo’s next step is the Scarlet Monastery wings with a full group.
Where the duo struggles
- Druid mana is shared between healing and shapeshifting. Heal after the fight in one go, not with shifts in and out during it.
- Casters hit the Rogue or the healing Druid from range. Kick or Gouge them, or let the Druid Feral Charge to interrupt and pull them in.
- Early bear threat before 20 is thin. The Rogue holds back energy for the first seconds and saves Eviscerate for after the bear has two hits in.
- Big mixed packs have no AoE answer except Swipe and Blade Flurry. Take two or three mobs, not a whole camp.
