Theorycrafted before the WoW Forever beta (September 17, 2026). The leveling plan follows the proven Classic leveling builds, the talents use the pre-release WoW Forever trees on this site, and ability levels quoted from Classic may differ in Forever. Expect updates once the beta is testable.

The duo at a glance

Warrior & Paladin Duo for levels 10–60: an Arms Warrior who takes the hits and a Retribution Paladin who hits hard and heals between swings.

The classic Alliance melee pair fixes each class’s biggest leveling problem: a solo Warrior eats after every second mob, a solo Paladin kills slowly. Together the Warrior holds the mobs, the Paladin adds Seal of Command damage and tops the Warrior up with Flash of Light, and neither sits down often. Both play damage specs, since little in the open world needs a dedicated tank or healer. Paladins are Alliance-only, so this duo is too.

Role Spec Job
DPS Arms Warrior Charges first, holds the mobs and turns damage taken into Rage for Mortal Strike and Sweeping Strikes
DPS Retribution Paladin Seal of Command damage, Blessings, Flash of Light between kills and the emergency cooldowns

Both specs link to their own guide with the talents for that half of the duo.

How the warrior & paladin duo plays

  1. The Warrior opens every pull. Charge (or a shot, for pulls near other packs), Rend, then Battle Shout. The Paladin waits a second before swinging so the first threat lands on the Warrior.
  2. The Paladin judges and swings. Seal of Command on, Judgement on the Warrior’s target, re-seal, keep meleeing. Blessing of Might goes on the Warrior and Blessing of Wisdom on yourself before the session: Blessings last an hour in WoW Forever.
  3. Damage taken is Rage. With a healer standing next to you, the Warrior can take several mobs at once and turn every hit into Rage for Mortal Strike, Overpower and Heroic Strike. Pull two mobs as the normal rhythm from Sweeping Strikes at 30.
  4. Heal between kills, not during them. The Paladin keeps swinging while the Warrior is above half health, then uses Flash of Light as the last mob dies. Holy Light is for the pull that went wrong.
  5. Cooldowns are shared. Lay on Hands, Divine Protection and Blessing of Protection belong to the Paladin, but most of the time they are used to save the Warrior. Agree which one you use first when an extra pack joins.

Your job as Retribution Paladin

You deal steady melee damage and keep the Warrior on their feet. The Warrior takes the hits, so leave Righteous Fury off; from 39 Instrument of Law cuts your threat by 20% while it is off. Your mana covers both damage and healing, which is why Benediction, Sanctified Judgement and Holy Conduit come before extra damage, and Champion of the Light plus a few Holy points make Flash of Light count when a pull gets messy.

Pull by pull

  • Before the session: Blessing of Might on the Warrior, Blessing of Wisdom on yourself, and a Seal ready.
  • Wait for the Warrior’s Charge and Rend, then Judgement their target and re-seal Seal of Command.
  • Melee behind or beside the mob. Holy Strike when it is ready, Consecration only on pulls of two or more that the Warrior already holds.
  • When the last mob drops, Flash of Light the Warrior up instead of both of you sitting down.
  • If an extra pack joins: Hammer of Justice the hardest hitter, Holy Light the Warrior, and save Lay on Hands for the moment the Warrior would die.

Mistakes that get the duo killed

  • Turning on Righteous Fury: you pull the whole pack off the Warrior and they lose their Rage source.
  • Blessing of Protection on the Warrior mid-fight: they cannot attack while it is up, and the mobs turn to you.
  • Healing to full during the pull. Heal when the Warrior drops below half, otherwise keep swinging.
  • Skipping drinks because the Warrior is still fighting. Both of you should rest at the same time.

Talent order by level

One point per level from level 10. The talent tree above shows the finished level 60 build; use the level slider to see it at any level.

  • Levels 10–14 · Benediction 5/5 — 15% cheaper Judgement and Seals. You cast them all session long, so this is the first mana talent.
  • Levels 15–16 · Improved Judgement 2/2 — 2 sec shorter Judgement cooldown: more Seal of Command judgements and more Sanctified Judgement refunds.
  • Levels 17–19 · Conviction 3/5 — +5% melee crit for Vengeance and more Seal procs landing on crits.
  • Level 20 · Seal of Command 1/1 — Your main damage seal: a chance on every swing to deal extra Holy damage, and its Judgement hits harder on a stunned target.
  • Levels 21–23 · Sanctified Judgement 3/3 — Judgement returns 60% of the seal’s mana cost. Judge on cooldown and your mana lasts through heals.
  • Level 24 · Conviction 4/5 — finish the talent.
  • Levels 25–26 · Crusade 2/2 — +2% damage, and 4% against undead and demons, which covers Scarlet Monastery Graveyard and the Plaguelands.
  • Level 27 · Sacred Arbiter 1/1 — +10% Holy Strike damage and Holy Strike refreshes your Judgement effects, so you judge less often.
  • Level 28 · Conviction 5/5 — finish the talent.
  • Level 29 · Holy Conduit 1/2 — 40% cheaper Consecration, Exorcism, Holy Wrath and Hammer of Wrath: Exorcism on undead becomes cheap filler.
  • Levels 30–32 · Vengeance 3/3 — +9% Physical and Holy damage for 8 sec after a crit, which is up most of the fight with Conviction.
  • Levels 33–35 · Two-Handed Weapon Specialization 3/3 — +9% damage with a two-handed weapon, the usual leveling weapon for Retribution.
  • Levels 36–38 · Champion of the Light 3/3 — Spell damage and healing from your Intellect: your Flash of Light on the Warrior and your Exorcism both get stronger.
  • Levels 39–40 · Instrument of Law 2/2 — 20% less threat without Righteous Fury, and a faster Hammer of Wrath. Exactly what the damage half of a Warrior duo wants.
  • Level 41 · Twist of Light 1/1 — When you swap Seal of Command for another seal, your next swing still applies Seal of Command. Swap to Seal of Justice on a runner without losing the Command hit.
  • Levels 42–43 · Pursuit of Justice 2/2 — 8% faster running and riding, for both walking between mobs and the long 40s zones.
  • Level 44 · Holy Conduit 2/2 — finish the talent.
  • Levels 45–49 · Divine Strength (Holy) 5/5 — +10% Strength from the Holy tree: attack power and block value for a melee Paladin.
  • Levels 50–52 · Healing Light (Holy) 3/3 — +12% Holy Light and Flash of Light healing on the Warrior.
  • Levels 53–54 · Spiritual Focus (Holy) 2/2 — 70% chance that damage does not delay Flash of Light and Holy Light when a mob turns on you.
  • Levels 55–57 · Improved Seals (Holy) 3/3 — +15% damage from your Seals and Judgements, which is a large part of Retribution damage.
  • Levels 58–60 · Vindication 3/3 — Your melee attacks can lower the target’s Strength and Agility by 15%, so the Warrior takes less damage.

Where to level

10–20: Elwynn Forest, Westfall and Loch Modan; Hall of Thanes (13–18) and The Deadmines (18–24) with a group. 20–30: Redridge, Duskwood and the Wetlands, with the Excavation Site (24–29) and The Stockade (26–32), a short all-humanoid dungeon that suits melee. 30–40: Arathi Highlands, Stranglethorn Vale and Desolace; Crusade and Exorcism make Scarlet Monastery Graveyard (31–37) quick. 40–50: Tanaris, Feralas and the Hinterlands, with Krol’dok Stronghold (40–55), Uldaman (44–50) and Zul’Farrak (45–51). 50–60: Un’Goro Crater, Felwood, the Plaguelands (undead again for Crusade) and Winterspring, with Blackrock Depths (52–60).

Where the duo struggles

  • Casters and ranged mobs stand back and do not follow Charge. The Warrior breaks line of sight around a tree or corner so they walk in, and the Paladin uses Hammer of Justice on the one that keeps casting.
  • Running mobs at low health pull extra packs. Hamstring the runner before it reaches 20% health, or the Paladin stuns it.
  • Paladin mana is the limit on long sessions. Judgement with Sanctified Judgement returns mana, but the Paladin should drink whenever the Warrior eats.
  • Little crowd control. Hammer of Justice and Hamstring are all this build brings. Three mobs that all hit hard are a pull to skip, not a pull to try.
