Mount prices are in the WoW Forever files: 20 gold at level 40, 200 gold at level 60

The beta client prices eighteen of WoW Forever's new mounts. The 60% versions cost 20 gold and need Riding 75 at level 40; the 100% versions cost 200 gold and need Riding 150 at level 60. Classic asked roughly 80 gold and 900 gold for the mounts on top of training. Reputation-gated mounts like the Pack Kodo and Spectral Bear carry no price at all. The same sweep confirms that 107 cooked foods carry a 5% experience boost.

“How much is a mount going to cost?” has been unanswerable since BlizzCon. The September 29 beta files answer it for eighteen of WoW Forever’s new mounts, because the items that teach them carry their buy prices.

Datamined from an unfinished build. Prices in a beta are tuning values and can change.

The two price points

Speed Level Riding rank Price
60% 40 Riding 75 20 gold
100% 60 Riding 150 200 gold

The prices are stored in copper, 200,000 and 2,000,000, and the speed and riding rank come from the mount type rather than the item.

The examples are the Galestriders, the Skyborne crane mounts: Empyrean, Regal, Stormy and Umber at 20 gold, and their Swift versions at 200 gold. Ten of the eighteen use creature models that are new to this client.

How that compares to Classic

In Classic, at level 40 you paid around 20 gold for the training and 80 gold for the mount, and at 60 roughly 100 gold training plus 900 gold for the epic mount, before reputation discounts. Our mounts page carries the full Classic reference table.

If these prices hold, the mount itself is dramatically cheaper in Forever. What we cannot see in the files is the training cost, which is a separate purchase and was always the larger half of the level 60 bill. So this is not yet the full answer to “how much do I need to save”, only to “how much is the mount”.

Not everything has a price

Some of the new mounts carry no buy price at all, including the Reins of the Pack Kodo and the Reins of the Spectral Bear, which the files mark as reputation-gated. Those are rewards rather than purchases, which fits the 42 new mounts we found earlier where most had no source listed.

The Winterspring Frostsaber is a case of its own: its epic speed now sits behind being Honored with the Wintersaber Trainers.

While we were in there: the food XP buff is confirmed

One more finding closes a gap in our own reporting. When we wrote about the food experience buff, we said the files showed 38 Well Fed foods but no experience line, so we would not publish a list.

The new sweep found it: 107 cooked foods pull in one shared spell, Well Fed XP Boost, which raises experience from kills by 5%. The line only renders when a player condition holds, which is why the tooltips looked inconsistent. The foods run from Goretusk Liver Pie and Westfall Stew at the bottom to Mightfish Steak and Nightfin Soup at the top.

So the buff is real, it is broad, and cooking any decent food is worth it while levelling.

What to do with this

  • Budget 200 gold plus training for epic riding, rather than Classic’s 1,000.
  • Do not sell every rare material at 40 in a panic to afford a mount. The bill looks smaller than the one you remember.
  • Keep cooking. Our cooking guide covers the recipe chain.

We will update the mounts page as prices are confirmed or change between builds.
