Theorycrafted before the WoW Forever beta (September 17, 2026). The group plan follows how cleave groups played in Classic, the talents use the pre-release WoW Forever trees on this site, and ability levels quoted from Classic may differ in Forever. Expect updates once the beta is testable.

The group at a glance

Melee Burst for levels 40–60: a Fury Warrior tank, an Assassination Rogue, a Retribution Paladin, an Enhancement Shaman and a Restoration Shaman.

Melee burst does not try to kill whole packs at once. It kills one elite after another very quickly, which is what the humanoid and undead dungeons from level 50 onwards ask for. The Fury Warrior tanks with a shield and still hits hard enough to hold threat, the Rogue deletes the kill target with Mutilate and Seal Fate, the Paladin brings Consecration, Seal of Command and blessings, and two Shamans stack their totems for a melee group: Windfury and Strength of Earth from one, Mana Spring and Healing Stream from the other.

Role Spec Job in the pull
Tank Fury Warrior Tanks with a shield in Defensive Stance, Cleave and Bloodthirst threat, Last Stand
DPS Assassination Rogue Mutilate burst on the marked target, Kick on casters
DPS Retribution Paladin Consecration, Seal of Command, blessings, Repentance on a humanoid
DPS Enhancement Shaman Stormstrike, Windfury and Strength of Earth totems, Earth Shock interrupts
Healer Restoration Shaman Heals the melee stack, water and fire totems, Mana Tide Totem

Every spec in the table links to its own guide with talents for that slot.

How the melee burst plays

  1. Pull size: one pack at a time, two when it is weak trash. Kill order is marked before every pull: casters and healers first.
  2. Totems down first: the Enhancement Shaman places air and earth totems, the Restoration Shaman water and fire totems, both on the spot where the Warrior will stop.
  3. Opener: the Warrior charges in Defensive Stance with Vanguard and uses Thunder Clap and Cleave. The Paladin drops Consecration two seconds later for threat-safe area damage.
  4. Burst the kill target: the Rogue opens on the marked mob, the Shaman Stormstrikes it, the Paladin judges it. It should die in a few seconds, then everyone moves to the next mark.
  5. Cooldown turns: Death Wish, Rage of the Farseer and Mana Tide Totem go on the packs that matter; trash gets none of them.

Your job as Retribution Paladin

You bring damage, support and a spare healer. Seal of Command and Vengeance carry your single-target damage, Consecration adds area damage without drawing a whole pack off the Warrior, and Crusade adds extra damage against undead and demons, which suits Stratholme and Scholomance. Sanctified Judgement and Benediction keep your mana up, and Blessings last an hour in WoW Forever.

Pull by pull

  • Blessing of Might on the melee, Wisdom on the Shaman healer, before the run.
  • Repentance on a humanoid that should stay out of the fight.
  • Consecration two seconds after the Warrior’s Thunder Clap, then judge and attack the marked mob.
  • Swap seals with Twist of Light between Seal of Command and a second seal for an extra seal effect.
  • Flash of Light on the Warrior if the Restoration Shaman is silenced or out of mana.

Mistakes that wipe the group

  • Consecration before the Warrior has threat: it pulls every mob in the pack.
  • Consecration next to a mob under Repentance.
  • Forgetting that Instrument of Law only lowers threat while Righteous Fury is off.

Talent order by level

One point per level from level 10. The talent tree above shows the finished level 60 build; use the level slider to see it at any level.

  • Levels 10–14 · Benediction 5/5 — 15% cheaper Seals and Judgements.
  • Levels 15–19 · Conviction 5/5 — +5% melee critical strike chance.
  • Level 20 · Seal of Command 1/1 — A chance for extra Holy damage on your swings: your main seal.
  • Levels 21–23 · Sanctified Judgement 3/3 — Judgement returns 60% of the judged seal’s mana cost.
  • Levels 24–25 · Pursuit of Justice 2/2 — +8% movement speed between packs.
  • Levels 26–27 · Crusade 2/2 — +2% damage, and another 2% against demons and undead.
  • Level 28 · Sacred Arbiter 1/1 — +10% Holy Strike damage, and Holy Strike refreshes your Judgements on the target.
  • Levels 29–30 · Improved Judgement 2/2 — 2 sec shorter Judgement cooldown.
  • Levels 31–33 · Two-Handed Weapon Specialization 3/3 — +9% damage with a two-handed weapon.
  • Levels 34–36 · Vengeance 3/3 — +9% Physical and Holy damage for 8 sec after a crit.
  • Levels 37–39 · Champion of the Light 3/3 — Spell damage from Intellect for Consecration, Exorcism and Seal damage.
  • Level 40 · Twist of Light 1/1 — Swapping seals leaves an Echo: your next swing also applies the old seal.
  • Levels 41–42 · Instrument of Law 2/2 — Faster Hammer of Wrath and 20% less threat while Righteous Fury is off.
  • Levels 43–44 · Holy Conduit 2/2 — 40% cheaper Consecration, Exorcism, Holy Wrath and Hammer of Wrath.
  • Level 45 · Repentance 1/1 — Incapacitates a humanoid for up to 6 sec.
  • Levels 46–48 · Vindication 3/3 — Your hits can lower the target’s Strength and Agility, so the Warrior takes less damage.
  • Levels 49–53 · Deflection 5/5 — +Parry for when a mob turns on you.
  • Levels 54–58 · Divine Strength (Holy) 5/5 — +10% Strength.
  • Levels 59–60 · Divine Intellect (Holy) 2/5 — More Intellect for mana and Champion of the Light.

Uldaman and Krol’dok Stronghold at 40–50 are fine for learning the kill order. The group gets strong in Zul’Farrak, Alcaz Prison and Blackrock Depths, where most mobs are humanoids that take extra damage from the Rogue’s Murder talent. At 55–60 it suits Lower Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul and Stratholme: Crusade adds extra damage against undead and demons.

Where the group struggles

  • Large packs: without a mage, large pulls take too long. Pull smaller instead of hoping Consecration and Cleave carry it.
  • Casters at range do not come into melee. Kick, Repentance and line-of-sight pulls are the answers.
  • Tank Rage starts low on the first seconds of each pull. Everyone waits for the Warrior’s Thunder Clap and first Cleave.
  • Healing: four players stand in melee range. The Restoration Shaman needs Mana Tide Totem on every hard pack and the Paladin can Flash of Light in an emergency.
