Theorycrafted before the WoW Forever beta (September 17, 2026). The group plan follows how cleave groups played in Classic, the talents use the pre-release WoW Forever trees on this site, and ability levels quoted from Classic may differ in Forever. Expect updates once the beta is testable.

The group at a glance

Melee Burst for levels 40–60: a Fury Warrior tank, an Assassination Rogue, a Retribution Paladin, an Enhancement Shaman and a Restoration Shaman.

Melee burst does not try to kill whole packs at once. It kills one elite after another very quickly, which is what the humanoid and undead dungeons from level 50 onwards ask for. The Fury Warrior tanks with a shield and still hits hard enough to hold threat, the Rogue deletes the kill target with Mutilate and Seal Fate, the Paladin brings Consecration, Seal of Command and blessings, and two Shamans stack their totems for a melee group: Windfury and Strength of Earth from one, Mana Spring and Healing Stream from the other.

Role Spec Job in the pull
Tank Fury Warrior Tanks with a shield in Defensive Stance, Cleave and Bloodthirst threat, Last Stand
DPS Assassination Rogue Mutilate burst on the marked target, Kick on casters
DPS Retribution Paladin Consecration, Seal of Command, blessings, Repentance on a humanoid
DPS Enhancement Shaman Stormstrike, Windfury and Strength of Earth totems, Earth Shock interrupts
Healer Restoration Shaman Heals the melee stack, water and fire totems, Mana Tide Totem

Every spec in the table links to its own guide with talents for that slot.

How the melee burst plays

  1. Pull size: one pack at a time, two when it is weak trash. Kill order is marked before every pull: casters and healers first.
  2. Totems down first: the Enhancement Shaman places air and earth totems, the Restoration Shaman water and fire totems, both on the spot where the Warrior will stop.
  3. Opener: the Warrior charges in Defensive Stance with Vanguard and uses Thunder Clap and Cleave. The Paladin drops Consecration two seconds later for threat-safe area damage.
  4. Burst the kill target: the Rogue opens on the marked mob, the Shaman Stormstrikes it, the Paladin judges it. It should die in a few seconds, then everyone moves to the next mark.
  5. Cooldown turns: Death Wish, Rage of the Farseer and Mana Tide Totem go on the packs that matter; trash gets none of them.

Your job as Fury Warrior

You tank with a shield but take your damage talents from Fury, because in this group threat comes from hitting hard. Unbridled Wrath and Enrage feed your Rage, Improved Cleave spreads threat, Bloodthirst holds the kill target, and Defiance from Protection adds 15% threat in Defensive Stance. Last Stand and Shield Specialization keep you alive while the Protection points are few.

Pull by pull

  • Mark the kill order, then Bloodrage for Rage before the pull.
  • Charge in Defensive Stance (Vanguard) and Thunder Clap right away.
  • Cleave as your Rage dump, Bloodthirst and Sunder Armor on the marked target.
  • Tab to any mob that turns to the Rogue and Taunt or Mocking Blow it back.
  • Last Stand before a caster pack’s burst, not after your health drops.

Mistakes that wipe the group

  • Death Wish on a dangerous pull: it increases the damage you take by 5%.
  • Taking off the shield: Defiance and Shield Specialization only work with a shield equipped.
  • Pulling two packs with no Rage.

Talent order by level

One point per level from level 10. The talent tree above shows the finished level 60 build; use the level slider to see it at any level.

  • Levels 10–14 · Cruelty 5/5 — +5% melee critical strike chance, which feeds Flurry.
  • Levels 15–19 · Unbridled Wrath 5/5 — A 40% chance for an extra Rage point on every weapon hit: the Rage you need to tank without full Protection.
  • Levels 20–24 · Shield Specialization (Protection) 5/5 — +5% block and Rage from blocks.
  • Levels 25–27 · Improved Thunder Clap (Protection) 3/3 — 4 less Rage for Thunder Clap, your opener on every pack.
  • Levels 28–29 · Improved Bloodrage (Protection) 2/2 — +5 Rage from Bloodrage; required for Last Stand.
  • Level 30 · Last Stand (Protection) 1/1 — 30% of your maximum health for 20 sec.
  • Levels 31–33 · Defiance (Protection) 3/3 — +15% threat in Defensive Stance with a shield.
  • Levels 34–36 · Improved Cleave 3/3 — More Cleave damage, which is threat on two mobs at once.
  • Levels 37–39 · Boundless Rage 3/3 — +30 maximum Rage so big crits and blocks do not waste Rage.
  • Levels 40–44 · Enrage 5/5 — +25% melee damage after a critical strike against you. Tanks get crit often.
  • Levels 45–47 · Precision 3/3 — +3% hit so Sunder Armor, Taunt follow-ups and Bloodthirst land.
  • Level 48 · Death Wish 1/1 — +20% Physical damage for 30 sec, with 5% more damage taken: for pulls you already control.
  • Levels 49–53 · Flurry 5/5 — 30% faster attacks after a crit: more swings, more Rage and more threat.
  • Level 54 · Bloodthirst 1/1 — An instant attack scaling with Attack Power: your main single-target threat.
  • Levels 55–59 · Anticipation (Protection) 5/5 — +10 Defense skill: fewer crits and more avoidance against level 55+ elites.
  • Level 60 · Vanguard (Protection) 1/1 — Charge in Defensive Stance without losing Rage to a stance swap.

Uldaman and Krol’dok Stronghold at 40–50 are fine for learning the kill order. The group gets strong in Zul’Farrak, Alcaz Prison and Blackrock Depths, where most mobs are humanoids that take extra damage from the Rogue’s Murder talent. At 55–60 it suits Lower Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul and Stratholme: Crusade adds extra damage against undead and demons.

Where the group struggles

  • Large packs: without a mage, large pulls take too long. Pull smaller instead of hoping Consecration and Cleave carry it.
  • Casters at range do not come into melee. Kick, Repentance and line-of-sight pulls are the answers.
  • Tank Rage starts low on the first seconds of each pull. Everyone waits for the Warrior’s Thunder Clap and first Cleave.
  • Healing: four players stand in melee range. The Restoration Shaman needs Mana Tide Totem on every hard pack and the Paladin can Flash of Light in an emergency.
